IT Infrastructure Modeling Language

Hi everybody.

I am a PhD student at the CVLBA Magdeburg and my research topic is about a modeling language for IT infrastructures. Basically, the idea is to create a modeling language for software architects and IT operations staff, which supports the software introduction in a datacenter. Once the models have been created (e.g. an hosting stack: Application-Server requires Operating System, which itself requires a computing unit), the models shall be used to generate configuration files automatically.

During my research, I found some similar approaches (e.g. the IT Modelling Language, the UML Deployment Diagram and the Topology Editor from IBM). All approaches have their pros and cons and therefore my question is, if you have any experiences with any of that modeling languages.

The second question, which I'd like to discuss is, how software is introduced in your organization/data center and which tools are used for deployment planning?

I'd really appreciate any comments to my questions and my research topic here in this thread, best regards,

André
