TDMS implementation

Hi everyone,

We have a landscape where we have R/3 4.7, ECC 6, BW and SRM-MDM systems available. For all these systems we do System refresh using sapinst Import/export procedure or Backup/restore method based on the System.

we have decided to implement TDMS to make refresh automated without system downtime. Since this TDMS is new for me i went through some documents which gives me an overall view anout TDMS.

Now what iam looking for is that,

1.As for as i know, TDMS is an add-on which can be applied through SAINT.Should i have separate version to be downloaded & applied for R/3 and ECC or TDMS 3(latest) can handle refresh for R/3 4.7 & ECC ?

2.Do i need to install TDMS in all the systems in the landscape? ex: when my Sender system is ECC PRD , my Receiver system is ECC QTY and i have separate TDMS server. I should go to all the 3 systems and apply DMIS add-ons? and the same way i should follow for my R/3 system also?

3.My R/3 4.7 system has 5 TB of DB size and ECC 6 also most critical system in the Landscape. Should i have seperate Central TDMS server for R/3 and ECC or i can have single TDMS server which can handle all the Sender(PRD) and receiver(QTY) systems refresh/migration at the same time?

4.TDMS server will keep the actual data taken from PRD and lateron transfers to QTY(in this case we need to consider the Space requirement of the TDMS server, rite?) or TDMS server will only pass the Data from  PRD to QTY?

please make me clear and help me to  make my implementation a succesfull one.

expecting your response

Thanks,

Siva

    Hi,

1.As for as i know, TDMS is an add-on which can be applied through SAINT.Should i have separate version to be downloaded & applied for R/3 and ECC or TDMS 3(latest) can handle refresh for R/3 4.7 & ECC ?

Ans: TDMS 3 can handle refresh of both R/3 $.7 and ECC

2.Do i need to install TDMS in all the systems in the landscape? ex: when my Sender system is ECC PRD , my Receiver system is ECC QTY and i have separate TDMS server. I should go to all the 3 systems and apply DMIS add-ons? and the same way i should follow for my R/3 system also?

Ans: Yes, you will have to install the add on in all the systems in the landscape. And also it is recommended to have the same SP level of the add on in all the systems.

Ans: You can have a single TDMS server which can be used to refresh different landscapes.

4.TDMS server will keep the actual data taken from PRD and lateron transfers to QTY(in this case we need to consider the Space requirement of the TDMS server, rite?) or TDMS server will only pass the Data from PRD to QTY?

Ans: TDMS selects the data and stores it in a cluster table in the Source System itself based on the selection criteria. This is then transferred to the target i.e. QTY system.

All the above information is already available in the Master Guide of TDMS. Kindly go through the documents available in the service market place for TDMS. The links to these docs can be found in the sticky thread of this forum. This would help in answering all your queries and give a better understanding of TDMS.

    Thanks & Regards,

    Suman
