This is all about getting your work done for others and getting others to get their work done for you.  There's a simple recipe - use task management.  You finish a task - it's done - it goes away.  Applied to the ERP environment this simple formula makes sure that the enterprise processes really burn rubber. Especially those sticky knowledge-management style tasks where it's the business context that counts and the tasks are more sporadic in nature. Sporadic does not mean unimportant. Quite the opposite. The very best well-oiled process while grind to a halt if those km-style tasks aren't dealt with and presented in a simple easy-to-perform manner.   When you're presented a simplified task with the business context - you act on it - it's done - it goes away.  Satisfaction all round.  So simplifying the task with interactive forms, guided procedures, and a central business-aware task list (uwl=universal worklist) is what you need.  And if the carrots don't squeeze enough performance out of your ERP system then the performance reporting will. It is not done on an individual basis but it will allow alerts to be triggered when service-level agreements are not met. Or even better trigger the alerts just before the service-level agreements reach the danger zone.  There are many new important features in SAP NetWeaver 2004s in the area of business task management and I have put together a very short overview presentation to show you some of these these.   In addition, we have mapped out which features have been down-ported to SAP NetWeaver 2004 or below and what constellation of support packages are required. These are available in a spreadsheet focusing on the universal worklist, also available on SDN in the IT Scenario section devoted to business task management.   Take a butcher's at these new features - you'll be pleasantly surprised at what has already been down-ported to your release as well as what is coming soon.
