Since more than 10 years SAP is a member of HL7, the global authority on standards for healthcare interoperability (see
http://www.hl7.org/). In 2008 SAP also joined Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) Germany (see
http://www.ihe.net), a global initiative to improve the way computer systems in healthcare share information by promoting the coordinated use of established standards such as DICOM and HL7. Thus, SAP has a long history in the realm of healthcare related interoperability. Recently, SAP demonstrated its commitment and capabilities in the largest interoperability testing event for the Healthcare Information Technology (HIT): the European Connectathon which was held from April 11 to 15 in Pisa, Italy.
Together with a dedicated team from SAP Solution Management and SAP Netherlands over 400 people from more than 75 other vendors and institutions were present to test the scenarios that are relevant for their applications. During the five days of intensive testing, the SAP team realized that the name “Connecta-thon” was actually derived from the word “marathon”... We set up, ran, and checked scenarios with test partners such as Be-iTech, evolucare, Glintt, inpeco, iSoft, Marand, MIPIH, SACYL, topicus, Vision4Health, Visus.
These days, SAP is waiting for the formal acknowledgement of all of its efforts and success: Integration Statements for all actors for which SAP registered:
- Profile PAM – Actor Patient Demographics Supplier
- Profile PAM – Actor Patient Demographics Consumer
- Profile PDQ – Actor Patient Demographics Supplier
- Profile CT (Consistent time) – Actor Time Client
Details can be found at the
IHE Europe Website where also the
results are published on May 1st.
The benefit of these successful tests for our customers is that the implementation of our solution with other IHE compliant products will be faster and more cost effective.
The solution used at the Connectathon could be realized on nothing but SAP products: SAP Patient Management ECC6.0 EhP5 with Netweaver PI 7.1 and the HL7 adapter IAH.
As the underlying enterprise services are all related to the administrative part of SAP Patient Management, more details can be found in the Enterprise Services Bundle
Patient Administration and in the corresponding
IHE configuration guide.
Looking forward to your first requests to implement HL7 based scenarios with the above SAP for Healthcare architecture!
Best regards,
Bettina
