Here is a short preview of interesting enhancements for Knowledge Management that will be part of support package 13 for SAP NetWeaver 7.0 (2004s):

  • Transport of KM Content
A new transport function is available, which you can use to transfer KM content from one system to another, for example, from a test system to a production system. During the transport, the system takes into account the folder hierarchy with its documents and the following metadata: Standard properties (e.g. file size, creation date, last changed by), custom properties, ACLs. You can either use the local portal user interface to export and import transport packages or the Change and Transport System (CTS+) to transport a package automatically into a specific target system.

  • Report for Determining the Size of Folders
You can use a new report to determine the size of KM folders. The report calculates the size of a folder from the sum of all documents and subfolders contained therein. You can either use this report to create a list containing the sizes of all folders or to set the folder size as a new property for the folder (displayed in the details dialog box as miscellaneous property).

  • Wastebasket
Until now, you could not undo the deletion of items in KM folders. As of the new release, you can move items to a wastebasket and restore them from there. The content of the wastebasket is user-specific. Thus, users can display the items in their wastebasket and restore them, if necessary.

In addition, you can use the following reports to manage wastebaskets during production operations:
    a) You can use the wastebasket quota check report to define threshold values for the size of users’ wastebaskets and for the time interval after the deletion date. When the threshold value is exceeded, the system can automatically delete old items.
    b) The wastebasket cleanup report searches for inconsistencies in wastebasket folders that can be caused by users or administrators during production operations and cleans them up.

  • Web Page Composer
Web Page Composer allows business users of a company to create and publish web content and web pages for a company-internal intranet or an external information portal. The IT department can delegate the creation and management of Web content to users in the departments.

For the different web content management tasks Web Page Composer provides various tools: An XML-based editor to create and edit web content, a WYSIWYG page editor to build and publish web pages, and a site management iView to administrate web sites and their navigation structure.

For more information about Web Page Composer please also have a look at the introductory flashbook, the narrated demo video, or the corresponding Web Page Composer - a new Way to create and publish Web Pages in the Portal (Part I).
