In the aftermath of SAP Teched 2011 Las Vegas, I'd like to share with you some thoughts and feedback reported from attendees on the SAP NetWeaver MDM and SAP Master Data Governance sessions that were given under the umbrella of the overall Enterprise Information Management (EIM) session track.

Basic findings

All MDM/MDG sessions were well received with an estimated rate of +50 participants per hands-on session and generally crowded lectures. There was a big general interest in all MDM/MDG sessions, but what attendees were particularly eager to know was:

  • SAP NetWeaver MDM and SAP Master Data Governance integration aspects
Great interest in information governance through federated end-to-end MDM scenarios leveraging SAP NetWeaver MDM and SAP Master Data Governance.
  • MDM/MDG integration with SAP BusinessObjects Information Steward and Data Services
Information governance through active master data quality control by measuring, visualizing and defining follow-up remediation tasks seems to become more and more relevant for leading enterprises.

I remember giving a lecture at SAP TechEd 2006 where I already touched the topic of active control of master data quality, but by that time my impression was that customers didn't care too much about it (at least, this is what I took from the session feedback, then). But now, with SAP BusinessObjects Information Steward being generally available, SAP has the appropriate solution in place to tackle this. Time is ripe now!

In this context, SAP BusinessObjects Information Steward provides a perfect means to be combined with SAP NetWeaver MDM and/or SAP Master Data Governance.
  • Embedded MDM with SAP Master Data Governance
Great interest both in getting an overview and domain-specific knowledge [supplier, financials, materials (and upcoming customer)] plus information on general extensibility aspects.

With this positive momentum for SAP MDM solutions, on to SAP TechEd/SAPPHIRENOW Madrid. Don't miss the opportunity to get the latest news there on MDM at SAP.

Thanks, Markus
