Recently I was invited to attend the Future Logistics Living Lab in Sydney as Victoria University was one of the founding partners.  The Lab was established by SAP, National ICT Australia (NICTA) and Fraunhofer, Europe’s largest research firm.  Other founding partners include; Hamburg  Sud, Linfox, Google, Erickson, Casella Wines, Tradegate, GS1,  UNSW and XAct.  The purpose of the Lab is to facilitate collaboration between the various logistics stakeholders to utilize technology to solve pain points in the industry.  At the event SAP Research demonstrated three prototypes which focused on different aspects of the supply chain.  Following these presentations attendees voted on a number of projects for prioritization for the future.

There is no doubt that issues with the information flow associated with shipping container events is a high priority for many companies and some prototypes are planned for future. Associated with this were issues around sustainability.

The Lab also includes an area for interactive demonstration stations to provide “hands on” prototypes developed by the Lab’s various stakeholders.

This is an exciting collaboration and having so many companies in one room who all want to get on and solve problems was a unique experience.  More information about the Future logistics Living Lab can be found at www.futurelogisticslivinglab.com.au
