SAP innoJam was conducted in Australia in conjunction with the SAP Australian User Group Summit.  It was the first time it was conducted at a university, University of Technology Sydney (UTS).  UTS is a member of the SAP Universty Alliances Program for more than 10 years.  It was also the first time the SAP InnoJam has involved students. There were approximately 40 participants who made up 5 teams.

The SAP InnoJam is about SAP professionals coming together to develop prototypes based on a submitted scenario using the latest SAP technologies.  The event lasts for 30 hours with some participants getting no sleep. More information can be found at http://www.sapteched.com/innojam/overview.htm#how

The students were part of a team involved in developing a prototype for a plant maintenance scenario.  It involved responding to a service request, reviewing the asset’s history and value and if the asset needed replacing then updating the CRM system with a sales lead.  The technologies involved included SAP ECC, CRM, Business Objects Explorer, HANA and Sybase Unwired.  Although the prototype did not win the SAP Innojam the students were still very excited about the event.  Here are some of their comments

“It’s a real eye opening experience to get so close to leading edge SAP technology with some of it not even available in the market yet”.

“A great experience working with SAP industry professionals.”

“InnoJam is fun.”

“It is a once in a life time experience for me.”

Maybe the idea of involving students can be used at other SAP InnoJams around the world.  Students could even be involved in their own InnoJam event involving one or two technologies with the winners being invited to be part of SAP InnoJam teams.

Well done SAP and the University of Technology Sydney.  What a great learning experience!
