In the first blog of this short series of blogs you could watch the How-to Implement SAP NetWeaver Functionality? – Installation Made Easy. Installation of the system, however,  is only one step. When it’s finished, both SAP NetWeaver AS ABAP and AS Java of this dual stack installation are up-and-running and can be accessed with administrator users such as DDIC for the ABAP stack and J2EE_ADMIN for the Java stack.

But configuring the system is just as important and will include as many steps. In this part of the demo series the configuration of the new system is shown.

SAP NetWeaver System Configuration – the Demo

For quite some time automated configuration is available. Not all of you, however, may have seen it in action or in one of its latest versions… so here you are: My demo shows the configuration of SAP NetWeaver Process Integration 7.1 including SAP enhancement package 1 for SAP NetWeaver 7.1. The PI system has been installed already; both stacks are up-and-running, and very basic user management is in place – so you could start to do the configuration manually – but stop: Have a look of what’s included in the task before you start. The automated process handles a lot of single steps and is less error-rpone and definitively faster.

The demo content:

  • The demo starts with checks if you can log on to both stacks that have been installed.
  • Configuration itself begins when you open the configuration tool “Configuration Wizard” in the SAP NetWeaver Administrator running on the Java stack and choose the required configuration task.
  • In the first phases of the configuration you take some decisions on what to configure – especially, in this case, whether to use an existing or create a new System Landscape Directory (SLD) and what passwords you want initially to apply.
  • After you made your settings, all steps will run automatically without user interaction, but can be monitored in the configuration tool -  I did that for this demo to show you all the configuration steps.
