Hi,
We have the folliwng error in Web Intelligence Rich Client. I can log on
and select a Universe as a data source. I can build a query, but if I
try to run the query, I get the following error:
"A database error occurred. The database error text is: (CS) "COM
Provider CLSID not specified or erroneous" . (WIS 10901)"
Using registry scanning software, I have found that there are various
missing folders, dll's and invalid CLSID's. I have manually created the
missing folders but this does not work. Obviously there isn't much I can
do about the invalid dll's or CLSID's.
I have tried uninstalling all BusinessObjects and Crystal Reports
applications on my PC, and reinstalling the Rich Client, but to no
avail. I can run queries successfully against a local data source.
Garreth
I was getting this same error. My laptop had SQL Server 2008 R2 and the database I was connecting to is SQL Server 2008 on a BusinessObjects 3.1 SP3.
When trying to parse the new DATE field in SQL Server 2008 was giving me "CS: COM Provider CLSID not specified or erroneous".
After realizing that SQL Server 2008 R2 DATE function is not supported on BOE 3.1. Then i downloaded the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Native Client from (http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=16177).
Make sure when you run this package do not have anything open, after this install completes then restart you system. You may have to restart twice to sync up the drivers.
Open up BusinessObjects Universe and parse a field that uses the DATE variable.
You should not have to update the oledb.sbo file the new drives wil take care of the update.
please let me know if this does not work for you can i can help find the problem

Hi experts,
After I install the SQL Native client the WebI Aplication present the following problem:
Database error: [Microsoft SQL Server Native Client 10.0] : SQL Server Network Interfaces: Error Locating Server/Instance Specified [xFFFFFFFF]. . (IES 10901) (WIS 10901)
Aparently, the problem is solved, but this new error appear, how can I solved
Hi,
Please open a new Thread for your specific purposes - this one started in 2008, and was updated in 2011..
I will now lock this thread.
For what it is worth, You should check/test you Universe Connection to your database. It may be a problem with your client or server side DSN .
Also, try doing a Google on error text : SQL Server Network Interfaces: Error Locating Server/Instance Specified
Regards,
H
I also had the issues outlined in this thread, and installing the native client helped.

Hi,
Today i faced same issue and I resolved it by making changes in connection parameter. If I connect database on one of the server it throws this error. But when I connect it to similar database but on another server, it works fine. All objects gets parsed properly on both serevr but query runs only on one server. I don't see the need of uninstalling BO or registry. It is with SQL native connection on server.

Hi Garreth,
Did you ever get this issue resolved? We got an user having the same issue on his PC, but the installation on my PC works fine.
Thanks,
Steven

This is usually because the universe contains an object which is not correctly defined.
Try:
In Designer, identify the object that does not parse.
- run an integrity check
- check for parsing error for the object
- modify the SQL definition of the object so that it parses ok.
After modifying the object SQL definition, you can now run the query successfully in Infoview.

Has anybody found a resolution for this issue. I am running into the same problem in a clean BOXI release 3 installation.
CS: COM Provider CLSID not specified or erroneous
If I create an ODBC connection to the SQL Server 2005 database it works fine. However, if I create an OLEDB connection to the same database it gives me the error mentioned above.
Please advice.
Thanks.
There's an ADAPT out for this.
The relevant SAP NOTE is below:
SAP NOTE 1204488 - Error: "CS:COM Provider CLSID not specified or erroneous" trying to create SQL Server 2005 OLEDB connection in Designer.
Symptom
When trying to create SQL Server 2005 OLEDB connection in the Designer, an error message appears:
"CS:COM Provider CLSID not specified or erroneous"
Cause
The issue has been identified and tracked under ID ADAPT00736944.You need to first install the SQL Native Client driver or modify parameters in the oledb.sbo file.
Resolution
Choose one of two work arounds to resolve this issue:
*
Install the SQL Native Client driver.
*
Modify parameters in the oledb.sbo file as follows:
1.
Open the oledb.sbo file located in the oledb directory under the connectionServer install directory.
2.
Under the <DataBase Active="Yes" Name="MS SQL Server 2005"> section of the file, change the following two parameters:
Parameter Provider CLSID " change value to: SQLOLEDB
Parameter Enumerator CLSID " change value to: SQLOLEDB Enumerator
3.
In the oledb.sbo file, locate the <DataBase Active="Yes" Name="MS SQL Server 2000"> section. The parameters you set in the the <DataBase Active="Yes" Name="MS SQL Server 2005"> section should be the same as the corresponding values in <DataBase Active="Yes" Name="MS SQL Server 2000"> section.
Hi,
This is the lastest from the affected user, based on your last suggestions :-
Yeah, tried that, also tried using a Registry Scanner to remove any
orphaned keys, but that didn't work. I think it may well be something to
do with a dodgy previous installation, but I can't find it. I have new PC
with no previous installation on it.
The ODBC thing is not relevant as we are not using ODBC in this
instance.
I have just tried it again and noticed this entry in the Windows
Security Log. I don't think it is the cause of the problem, but it might
be worth looking into:

I have uninstalled The Webi Rich Client and carried out a registry scan which found loads of errors. I cleaned up these errors so that I had a good registry with zero errors. I then reinstalled the client and scanned the registry again with came up with the problems in the attached list.

Thanks for the response, I will look at this.

Hi Garreth,
After uninstalling, did you try and clean out the registry. Search for "Business Objects" and remove as many entries as possible and then try to reinstall.
Sounds like the installation did not go well the first time round.
Also something on the WIS 10901 error to check is if your are using ODBC connections for your universes then you may want to delete them on your machine and just recreate them.
Hope this helps
Jacques
