Hi there,
When defing the routes in 0VTC there is a field Rel. Transport. If we check that filed shipment docs will be generated for that route.
Each route may have various stages.
For eg: Delivery from, Bangalore plant to Hyderabad customer.
Route may have the following stages for eg:
1. Blore plant to Blore forwarder warehouse (Prlim leg)
2. Blore forwarder warehouse to Hyderabad forwarder warehouse (Main Leg)
3. Hyd forwarder warehouse to Hyd end customer (subs leg).
Each stage is handled with same or different service agent / carrier.
Shipment doc is used to monitor goods movement from one stage to another. It has the source & destination for the stage, what items are carried & by whom. There will also be a shipment cost doc, that is used to track cost of transportation. That cost is to be paid to the carrier for his service. When defining each stage there will be a ship cost relevence field. If you check that, shipments costs can be calculated for the shipments.
Hope this clarifies your question.

Dear Mano
Shipment Process:
The aim of shipment is to complete the formalities involved in getting a shipment ready for dispatching to the customer. Tasks in shipment completion include weighing the shipments, loading, and posting goods issue. At check-in (when a truck arrives on the companys premises) information about the means of transport such as driver details, the weight of the truck, and its arrival time can be recorded. You can store all this information in the shipment document and it is printed out on the transportation documents, for example, when the completion status is set. There are various reports available to assist you in choosing the shipments relevant for check-in and those relevant for shipment completion.
