I am quite new to SAP, so will all the seasoned people out there please forgive my ignorance, and also please help...
I was hoping that somebody could provide me with some details of what the typical roles and responsibilities a Basis Administrator normally performs.
Many Thanks
Ian
Hi Ian,
I'm SAP Basis Admin (whatever that means since about 10 years. I think it's not possible to define exactly all the tasks and responsibilities. For some topics (e.g. Hardware, OS) the boundaries are not set clearly and depend from company to company.
Some buzzwords according to SAP-Basis:
- (SAP-)Systemmanagement (CCMS)
- Correction- and Transport-System (TMS)
- SAP-System-Landscape-Planning
- Upgrades/Migrations
- Software-Correction-Support (Notes, Support Packages)
- User-/Authorization-Management
- System-Setup (Installation, Post-Installation, etc.)
SAP-Basis-Team is often the layer between the Hardware/OS-Team and the Application-Team.
Any detailed questions?
Regards
Juergen

Thanks for the advice, but I feel i'm in a bit of a unique situation.
I look after the hardware for the landscape, the BASIS administration (not very clearly defined), as well as upgrades etc, and thats before I get onto the non SAP applications/hardware I support.
What i'm after is more of a list of roles, like the
TMS
Backups
User Management
etc...
Thanks
Ian
hi,
i think you were quite specifig :-). here they are...
Transport Management System
User Management & Roles- Done in transactions PFCG & Su01. The challenging part here is the Authorizations you give for the roles to which the users are linked. Developers get a different set of authorization objects and admin users get a different set. there are templates available for this. but specific roles/authorization objects will be mentioned in the respective component configuration guides(say XI/MI/BW etc..)
