I've posted some links to the NetWeaver Developer Guide on the ABAP homepage. Since our first topic will be run-time tools, it would make sense to look at some of the overview contents of the 2004s guide for "Using ABAP". I'll also post registration details there.

cheers,

Marilyn

Hi,

Are they continuous sessions, the session topics are really good.

what is the duration of the sessions..

Regards

vijay

Vijay, I would assume that these sessions are 5 separate sessions, most likely scheduled for 5 different days. There is a lot of information to be presented, and I'm sure that one can not jam it all into 1 or 2 hour session. You could do an entire day on WDA.

Marilyn, looks like you guys have covered all of the new ABAP technologies, how about Regular Expressions in ABAP(Maybe when its released?)

Regards,

Rich Heilman

Thank you Rich for the Update, where can i get detail info about these sessions...,any idea.

I'm sure that Marilyn will post some more details on the ABAP homepage in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!

Thanks Rich, for your quick and accurate answer here.

The sessions are to be 1 hour each (although our RFID ran 1/2 hour overtime by popular demand.) I can't promise that here in the ABAP case as our Product Managers have a very tight schedule and there will be more than one speaker for the first session and second session.

I'll ask Venky Varadadesigan to help derive a more exact agenda when we finish this "pre-conference" conversation we are having here.

We want to set expectations as well as hear comments. When we gather information we can also tell folks what this is not as well as what it will be. Basically this should cover lots of themes that we can see in various documentations around ABAP spread out as different collateral in our repository that you may or may not all be aware of: "The New ABAP debugger, editor, enhancement and modification framework.

And yes, Rich is absolutely correct...details and links to preliminary reading materials will be found on the ABAP page

Plus I am sure there will be some additional content surpirises.

cheers,

Marilyn

Hi,

It's a great initiative. It's a bit pity that it's rather late at night for us Europeans.

I agree that the hour isn't ideal for others on your side of the "pond" :-).

Perhaps we could be fair and have another run of topics at a more convenient hour for GMT, Asia, and Oceania.

Right now, this is speaker dependent. If I had my way, I would have different time options and I certainly would want to be accommodating to our master of ceremonies,

Craig, over in Germany who is also going to suffer the inconvenience

Maybe when these become so popular that they are more staffed, we can hold multiple series, and we can have more region suitable meet-ups. Synchronous is always problematic when it comes to "live" international events. Someone is always going to suffer. This time its me too, cause I'm traveling during some of these: Palo Alto, Walldorf, Istanbul and I certainly don't want to miss them :-).

As always, thanks for your important feedback, Eddy!

Ralph Benzinger presented the final and last chapter (for now) of the ABAP online meetups: Regular Expressions.

Ralph has generously offered to answer questions for the next couple of days in this forum, as a follow up.

I'll end this thread and start another one.

Thanks everyone, who particpated and faciilitated this excellent series, and special thanks to Craig for initiating the idea of Online Meetups and supporting these last 8 ABAP sessions. Bravo!

what would be the duration of the sessions.

Hi Kishore and Robin,

The sessions will be a series...approximately one a week for the next 5 weeks :-). Looks like the time and duration will be consistent - Fridays at 2:00 PM EST. I apologize to all those for whom the schedule is not ideal but we are "speaker dependent" and that is when our folks are available at present.

Duration: between an hour and one and a half hours. Again depending on resources and interest.

Registration link and info and reading is found on

Hi,

maybe these Online Meet-ups can provide a chance for the developer community outside SAP to give feedback about newly implemented features and even to suggest future enhancements? Right now, I'm a little in the dark if there's anything along the lines of the JCP (Java Community Process) in place for external ABAP developers to make themselves heard.

Cheers

Achim

Achim,

I entirely agree with you about this kind of approach. There is a similar approach in an evolving Enterprise Service Architecture community if you visit the ESA Preview system

On occasion our community in ABAP does make their opinions heard. Check out the long thread around retrofitting/back porting the New ABAP Editor to older versions of the system.

I will be very pleased to bring this feedback back to Product Management, but actually you can also have this opportunity if you go to the ABAP page and register for the event. Speak up there as well! It is an excellent opportunity as product management will be present.

Again thanks for your valuable input

cheers,

Marilyn

Of course SDN is a great place to go in order to provide such feedback.

Here in North America through the Americas' SAP User's Group (ASUG) there is also a more formalized process for requesting enhancments that revolves around the Influence Council. This is also an excellent approach for anyone in this region. I am not sure if the other user groups around the world have the same kinds of processes or not.

Hi ABAP SDNers,

Was a great online meet-up today.

My favorite was a brief exchange on the chat that I would like to share:

...

Rich Heilman to All Participants: Since all the ABAPers are here, who's answering questions in the forum?

Duarte Santos to All Participants: lol

Gregor Wolf to All Participants: Others can catch up with the points :-).

Gregor Wolf to All Participants: OSS will have mutch more traffic today

mark finnern to All Participants: Rich you can do multitaskin can't you?

Suresh Datti to All Participants: Rich.. it has been dull all day anyway..

Rich Heilman to All Participants: Mark, sure, multitasking is our specialty, right?

Excellent, Mark.
