Hi dear Colleagues. The question are :

Are we can do client copy from the

source :

Microsoft(R) Windows(R) Server 2003, Enterprise Edition 32 bit ,

Oracle 10.2.0.4

ECC 6.0 EHp2 (release and PL of all components are identical)

target

Sun Solaris 10 x86_64 bit

Oracle 10.2.0.2

ECC 6.0 EHp2 (release and PL of all components are identical)

If client copy are possible, the best way are ? Regards.

Hello Sergo,

if the SAP system itself is identical, then you can make a client copy over different OS/database platforms.

You can also check sapnote #552711 (Point 5) to verify this.

The "best" way depends on your infrastructure and the possibility of access. If you have direct access, the easiest way would be a RFC client copy. You can check the different ways here:

  • Copying Clients Between Systems

  • Transporting Clients Between Systems

Hi,

I dont think it works.

Oracle 10.2.0.4 data wont be supported in Oracle 10.2.0.2...since higher version data wont be compatible with lower version.....

This works - the interface used for the copy (RFC) is unaware of database version and operating system (as already stated), you can even copy from Windows/Oracle to AIX/DB2.

You´re correct if you say that one needs to have the same Oracle patchlevels when doing system copies.

Hi,

I don´t think so, Oracle version is different and workbench might be different so client copy (export/import) will fail. Lets read what the real gurus have to say.
