Hi,
can XI replace the SAP OPC?
what are the pros & cons?
Thanks
Udi,
As far as I understand OPC is a standard and SAP ODA is based upon the same.
Are you asking if XI supports this standard?
I don't think as of now, XI support this standard.

Ravi

Udi,
I think we are trying to compare apples to oranges here. XI is meant for integrating two systems, where either they differ on the technology front, data format front etc.
OLE is meant for a different putpose altogether and I am not sure what exactly you mean by Data Access.
If you want to send data from one application to other applications, that is when XI comes into picture.
If you can tell me your exact requirement that you are looking for, then I will try to see if XI fits.

Ravi
Hi Udi.
I guess when you say you want to transfer OPC data from machines e.g. weights, production machines and so, you'll need a very fast data transfer and response. remember in XI we are talking XML and the time to covert from machine->XI XML->machine may take longer then real-time or software development in C++ for example.
seems to me that the response time of the system may not fit your customers needs but this is only a guess cause I'm not familiar with the BP and the Customer buisness.
read the following details in the link regarding the subject of connecting the SAP Best Practice of Pharma to OPC.there is a SAP -standard for it.

Any way good luck.
