Time at which paging was high??

Hi,

We had high paging on our production system two days back.

we would like to know the time at which paging was high in a day.

No dumps reported about high paging.

Ours are AIX sytems.

I don't have permission to do "svmon" in OS level

Is there any way of finding the same from OS level.

Regards,

Venkat

In most cases a message is displayed on the console when the system runs out of memory and paging occurs but if you don't have permission to run 'svmon' I doubt you will have permission to view the console log.

Anyway the command would be:

alog -o -f /var/adm/ras/conslog

Hi,

As per your assumption I don't have permission to view the conslog.

I need you help in analyzing this command "sar"

when I did sar -u below is the out put.

sar -u

Can't open /var/adm/sa/sa29

Try running /usr/lib/sa/sa1 <inc> <num>

what is <inc> <num> meant for ????

I am able to go to the path /usr/lib/sa and file sa1 is existing under user "bin"

what is <inc> <num> meant for ????

<inc> is increment ie how many seconds between samples <num> is number of samples

...so eg

sar -u 1 5

...will give you 5 samples with 1 second between each sample.

See 'man sar' or the following [link|http://docs.hp.com/en/B2355-60127/sar.1M.html] for further information.

You should setup sar correctly with a cron and make sure directory /var/adm/sa exists. Otherwise just use the above for current measurement.

Hi,

Sometimes ST03N helps for this problem.

ST03n -> Service engineer -> Memory Use Statistics.
