Hello,
We have followed the guide for NW 7.0 EHP to update our system from NW 7.0 SPS18. The kernel update appears to be successful, and system -> status tells us that we are on the 701 kernel.
However, we are having trouble in SPAM/SAINT. We've downloaded the latest 701/34 kernel and attempted to update spam, but once the update completes and we restart spam, it is still at 700/34 (not 701/34).
Furthermore, we are able to load the 701 support packs from EPS/in, however, they never appear in SPAM or SAINT, and therefore they cannot be added to a queue and applied to the system. SAINT complains that the components are "701" and basically are not appropriate to install in a "700" system.
Obviously we are missing something here in the update process. What does it take to get SAINT/SPAM to recognize the 701 support packs? We've read through many docs and notes and have had no success.
Thank you.

Kernel updates are not applied using SPAM/SAINT but by manually unpacking them on OS level...

You can't upload just the "patches for 701" but you also need to upload the installation packages - which is the component 701. Without knowing what you downloaded it's very hard to guess, what went wrong..
To upgrade to 701 you need to
- download and install the 701 kernel (which you apparently already did)
- downlaod the upgrade media for 701 - not just the patches for the components

Here is a quite from the EHP1 for SAP NW 7.0 stack guide:
Conventional Import Mode
This option comprises the following steps:
1. Update the SAP kernel and SAP IGS as described in section Updating SAP Kernel and SAP IGS below.
Start the system after the kernel update.
2. Import the ABAP Support Packages with the Support Package Manager (SPAM).
I've done #1, but the packages don't appear in saint/spam for #2.

You download only patches.
> File ;Description ;Component Version ;Instantiation ;Instances
> SAPK-70101INPIBASIS;PI_BASIS Support Package 01 for 7.01;PI_BASIS 7.01;;Application Server ABAP
> SAPK-70102INPIBASIS;PI_BASIS Support Package 02 for 7.01;PI_BASIS 7.01;;Application Server ABAP
> SAPK-70103INPIBASIS;PI_BASIS Support Package 03 for 7.01;PI_BASIS 7.01;;Application Server ABAP
Just as example I pick that one.
You downloaded patch 1, 2 and 3 for PI_BASIS 7.01 - but you have not yet PI_BASIS 7.01, right?
So the base package is missing - means PI_BASIS 7.01.
Are you in the RampUp for EHP1? if not, then you may not be able to download that base package.

I apologize for wasting everyone's time. This is abviously an upgrade, not just the installation of support packs. This is where I was confused by SAP's documentation.
