SAP FI certification

Folks,

I have been working in SAP for last five years but in technical domain. For fortunately enough i have spent most of the time in FI/CO module . Since working constantly in this module i have gain considerable amount of knowledge in this area. Now I would like to give certification specifically in FI and I am walking in the dark. Can someone give me answer for this question related to FI certification that would be great.

1. What courses I need to study for FI Certification? I do have most of the material since my colleagues have attended lots of SAP courses but no one appeared for certification.

2. SAP emphasis on which area the most.

3. How many questions asked and how long the exam would be.

4. How difficult it would be for a technical person to complete this exam successfully?

You can post certification related questions in SAP Certified Professionals Forum.

1. You need to read TFIN50 and TFIN52.

Please see the syllabus at www.sap.com/education

2. The emphasis is already given in the syllabus. Where there is +++ areas you need to concentrate more.

3. 80 questions 3 hours 70% pass mark. No negative marking. Hence answer guess all questions

4. It is not at all difficult exam, if you stick to your basics.

My sincere suggestion is you MUST go through the syllabus books ATLEAST

FIVE time before going to exam, religiously. Try to prepare notes out of each line.

The exam is not difficult but the wordings are tricky.

Use elimination approach to arrive at the right answers.

I have gone through your posts and they provide very useful information. Hope you can clear my doubts regarding SAP FICO.

I have been working as a Software Developer(in F&A domain) for last 2.5 years. I want to become a SAP FICO Consultant.

My First doubt, is it possible to shift career from a developer to SAP FICO consultant?

I have gone thorough the FI content which contain GL,AP,AR..Fortunately i have fair knowledge about these processes since i am working in the related domain.I can put effort to get a considerable knowledge in these processes by contacting SMEs in these process in my workplace.

Can you please tell me how far this approach will help my goal?What are the things i need to concentrate on?

Hi Amaresh,

Good to know you. First of all you need to have a formal training. Then you will better understand SAP, then you need to have some practice on the system. It gives you enough confidence to attend interviews. If you are in India Certification is a difficult process. Once you get a job in a consulting company and worked there for two years, then you can go for certification without training.

Therefore, I would suggest you go for some formal training to start your SAP career.

I introduce myself as Divya Babu, an IT professional working Sony India Software. I have more than 8yrs of industry experience. I have done my MBA and my base degree is Bcom.

Recently I started doing my SAP FI certification course with an experienced consultant and also holder of SAP certification.

I come to know that candidates who are doing ceritification course with any SAP authorised center only is eligible for Exam.

Hi Divya,

If you are in India, you should have to attend training from SAP / Authorised Training center. Any other training will not be accepted. Alternatively, if you satisfy the requirement of sufficient SAP implementation experience, you may write the exam.

The only best way is to read the SAP certification curriculum books for more than 5 times religiously, which would help to pass through the certification.

Your current task is passing Certification, so please do not much worry about job. It is a different ball game.

Once you pass the Certification, then you can look into options of getting a decent job.

This is true however one is simply keeping an eye out for any job opportunities .. All of which require at least 5+ years experience.

Ideally looking for opportunities abroad, preferably within the UAE so let's see.

I have been  working in IBM on Mainframe Technology since APR2012. I am looking to change my career from Mainframe to SAP FICO taking training outside & go for certification but peoples(My best wishers) are saying me that it is difficult to change the domain now however i am ready to give my 100% for FICO so how will it be for me ..

I have done my MBA in Finance and have got 1 year work experience. I was in break for 6 years, to take care of my kid having medical problem. Now am interested to work again, am planning to do SAP HANA certification to upgrade my career profile to this present job nature. I am fresher to SAP, even if I do either SAP FI or SAP HANA both are new to me. Would you please suggest , which one is right for me?.

Hi Sathya,

I am not sure whether it would be a right move to directly jump into SAP HANA.

SAP HANA requires considerably good experience in database and data warehouse concepts. Unless you have good experience in these areas, SAP HANA would be little grey area for freshers.

The problem with SAP FI is that there are number of fresher particularly in this area. Once you completed the training, you find there are so many consultants around you looking for break. Then it depends on the country, demand-supply in that country and you other credentials would help you to break.

Hi Satya,

It is also a good idea to learn HANA fundamentals through Open SAP, this gives you good flavour of the capability of SAP HANA.

e-Learning is cost effective, you an learn on your own speed. However, you should keep yourself committed to the course. That is a big challenging. Other than that, it is the same course as class room. I am not sure about South Africa, whether training is mandatory for appearing Certification.

My suggestion is:

a) Daily spend 2 hours - 4 hours on reading the course materials.

b) SAP is not test of memory, but understanding the fundamentals

c) Read the curriculum books as many times as possible.

I would advise you to have a close look at the blogs and articles in career / certification area, which should give quite a good amount of understanding on learning.

Firstly, congratulations for investing these many years in SAP technical. Now coming to the point, I would like to suggest some better options for you:

1. You have to clear C_TS4FI_2020 or C_TS4FI_2021 exam to get certified in SAP FI module. As you must be having lots of experience in SAP FI, you no need to attend the full time coaching and spend lakhs of rupees. But, for guidance I would like to recommend you to follow www.gauravconsulting.com as this website will help you to complete this course with full guidance and in less period of time and money. Also you can look for youtube videos.

2. FI is one of the important module in SAP. In FI module, AR, AP, GL, AA carries the maximum weightage.

3. Total there are 80 questions with no negative marking. Passing marks are 65 percentage. The time limit for this exam is 3.00 hours. I am sure you will crack this exam with 90 percentage and plus.

4. A person from a technical background has no difficulty level. You can easily crack this exam.

Hi Rahul,

Please refer training.sap.com, you will find the syllabus and see the differences. EHP5 has 62 percent pass mark and EHP6 has 64 percent pass mark. In EHP5 there are some generic topics are also included in EHP6 purely it is Financial Accounting.

As there is no much difference between the pass percentage, you should go for the latest Certification, which is EHP6.

Hii !!!. well. i pass the test .

And now I'm Certificate. Now is in Pearson Vue is a enterprise for only test certification what work with SAP education here in Argentina. And i only can share with you how i made the certificate test. in Pearson Vue we can't bring nothing anything and either cellphone or tablet or books.

So when i finished the academy of SAP FI i studied the manuals TFIN50-1, TFIN50-2 and TFIN52. and i read many times and I underline the most important of the manuals could be questions of test and according to the things they told me at the academy.

Finally I studie for 5 months and later i take the test and pass.

And the work is big important to know sap in the area administration jobs. in the interviews the bosses you look different.

I am Shripad, working in Dubai in one of MNC.

We have recently implemented SAP in our Dubai and I was Budget to report lead and also a lead for AP and AR integrated points with Procure to Pay and Order to Cash respectively.

I would like to go for SAP FICO certification now in order to enhance my knowledge.

Hello Shripad,

Please note now SAP FI and CO and two different certifications altogether. I would suggest you go for SAP FI.

You should have the formal training, then only you are advised to go for Certification. I do not know what is your level of knowledge in various areas, as this FI certification does not only cover AP AR but various other topics such as New GL, Asset Accounting, Solution Manager etc. Therefore, you should also be familiar with all those areas. If you have reasonably good understanding, then you can even read the available literature and appear directly for the certification. I think if you are in UAE you do not need to have pre-requisite of attending the training course. Please contact your local SAP Education in UAE.

I work as a Chief Accountant and have around 17 years of experience in Financial Accounting such as AR, AP, GL, Fixed Assets, Capital Planning, Inventory Management, Consolidation, Management reporting etc.

May I ask why I do you suggest I should do only FI and not CO?

Also, would you know which is the best institute in UAE I should go to for training?

Hi Shripad,

Compared to FI, CO certification is difficult. I can understand from your experience that you have good business process knowledge. But, I am not sure whether it would suffice to clear the CO examination, as it would also test in the areas of configuration in product costing, CO-PA. Remaining other CO areas might not that configuration driven as they are more or less process driven areas. Usually, people go with FI certification, after having couple of years experience, they would tend to go for CO Certification.

There might be SAP / Authorised Training Centers in Dubai. But, they would be expensive. I have no idea about the local institutes in Dubai.

For curriculum please refer above link. I would personally go with less pass percentage certification to avoid risk. You will find +++ areas with more importance reading. However, you should not leave any chapter or neglect neglect any chapter. Read all books at least 5 times very religiously.

I totally agree with Mr. Ravi Sir and Mr. Paul that, if we are Certified it doesn't mean that we will get the job in SAP. We have to try a lot, as I am the best example where I was in to banking and finance with 10+ years of experience in Recoveries. I got my certification with 88% in FI and thought that I will get a job in SAP and resigned from my current job. But it is not so easy to get a job even you are Certified, most of the companies look for an experienced consultants with 2 -3 Life cycle implementations. Country like Dubai you are very less open to the End-user jobs.

I have only time till 16th Nov to stay in this country and trying all the possible options to move into SAP. But I lost hope and have a feeling that I have to get back into Banking for time being.

As Ravi Sir said if we stick to the basics and understand the concept it is easy to clear the exam. So please stick to your current job and then look for jobs in SAP.

Hi Venkatachalapathy sir,

I am also working in bank. Right now i am a teller in bank. My day to day  work is to collect and  check cash and make a deposit entry in customers a/c. other than that  i make some entries of Fund transfer, neft and rtgs, clearing, cash withdrawal etc. some times i check a/c opening form that's it!           

so basically i am not using any logic in this job, instead of that only managing the volumes. In whole day just making lot of entries. Now a days bank is expecting cross selling from operation staff. so for example if i make 100 entries in very less time with high speed without error and at the end of the day i have to update my sales report also. If sales is zero then senior using abuse words and threaten to sack from job.If some mistake happen in operations then "******" may you understand what i mean.In this job i am neither in operation nor in sales.

The job timing is 8:30 AM to 9:00 PM with 1/2 hr lunch break.there is lot of restriction on me, becoz i am single teller in branch no back up, Holding keys of branch so no unplanned leave. very strict dress code wearing tie, full slaves shirt etc.

I did my graduation in BSC(Computer science) and PG MBA(Finance). I don't have any core experience in accounting.I am in banking sector from last 3 years. Sir my math is also not that much strong. I just want to know that should i go for sap (fi) module. i am not afraid of long hours work and leaves. I just want to do some quality work not only stick to data entry job and sales job.

Dealing with sales is very difficult for me.that's why i explain my detail job profile above.      

Requesting you please suggest me, should i go for sap. is it possible for me to learn sap fi module. how is work life balance in this field. Is sap fi help me to grow i career as well as provide me better life compare to current job profile. What is scope for me to grow in this field, Please help me sir.

Hi Rahul,

As per my understanding you are a banker in teller department and with a target on sales. Today's industry if it is a target oriented job then I can understand how difficult it will be to achieve the desired target's due to vast competition in market.

Coming to choosing the course always our elders say that knowledge is wisdom, so anything that you study will repay you in the future. If you are having a plan to opt for moving in to SAP FICO don't be too nervous whether you will be able to learn the course properly. After your office hours or on week days attend the class with a good reputed institute and spend at least 2_3hour's daily for practising and exploring new things and learn the course. Once the course is finished start looking for jobs at end-user and prepare well for your certification exams. Keep on thing in mind that don't resign the job once you are done with the course. Keep looking for jobs In SAP FICO.

To learn the course of SAP FICO you don't need to be a master mathematics. You just need to have a basic knowledge of accounts and which is not at all difficult. There are few videos and blogs that are available on YouTube and other site's. Please go through it as well.

SAP is one of the best ERP's where most of the companies are preferring and moving into. So don't think that the career won't be good if you study SAP. Just to make it very clear no one is perfect and we all are learning something or the other everyday. Give a shot learn the course and I am sure you will come out with flying colors.

Thanks a lot sir for replying...Its really help me and also gives motivation to do sap.

I inquire in some sap institute which gives me training and after completion of certification they give me internship as well as project. But only condition is that they will pay me only after passing the certification, they also give me very less package as compare to current.  I am ok with less package but only question in my mind is that how difficult certification is? for that i will check some video on you tube as you suggested. After studying the basic and if it is understandable to me, then i will go for sap. while doing this i am planing to leave my current job.

to concentrate on studies.....Can i go with this option sir?

Hi Rahul,

It us good to know that you are interested in doing SAP. As I said there is no hard and fast rule, try to gather the information as much as you can from the website's with regards to the module and the training institute and then proceed further.

As far as I am aware there are jobs for freshers for an entry-level with a less package, but once you gain the experience with thorough knowledge, then you will have a bright future. SAP is an ocean and day by day there are new things that gets added. So you should learn and practice as much as you can, by understanding the basics.

With regards to the course, my personal advice is not to quit your current job. Try to manage with your current job and join the course and struggle for a month or two. After which take a leave for 10-15 days and prepare for your certification and give a shot.

Once you are done with your certification, start looking for job's through the institute which you discussed with and once you have the offer letter then leave the job.

Leaving the job at the moment to join the course, which I don't suggest.

Hi Tejinder,

that is great indeed, but score by itself will not help you that much. I think it won't that much matter in your CV anyway. I found several advices while browsing the Internet and one of them is to create your online identity. Lots of people are missing this exact one thing. You should start a blog or write several blog posts here on SCN to be more recognizable. I think this can help you tremendously and the offers will come to you instead of you searching for them.

I think this is great advice. Positive and potentially productive. I am a recent graduate of FICO gaining my certification in this module hasn't as yet helped in any way of landing a role in SAP but one continues to be persistent.

It is very difficult in pursuing a career in SAP, especially if you're starting out anew. It's hard and the constant knockbacks certainly deter you from applying for roles. Seeking a Greenfield type of project where I can gain valuable experience and further expand my knowledge is near enough impossible. Employers have spend a huge amount of money licensing SAP and spend even more implementing in their organisation. How can they validate employing a newbie or an individual with little or no experience ?

It is difficult as I said however, currently using all resources at hand such as LinkedIn etc, I hope to get a break however it's not easy and I'm not sure I will be able to.

Do not leave your current job. Join OLT course with SAP. This allows you to learn on your own time.

Market is competitive, not easy to get a job for fresher. At the same time it is not impossible.

I think it's always advisable and advantageous to do the course in any module. You will gain actual application experience and knowledge. The certification further cements this.

i am giving my fico certification next week- i have been reading books Tfin50- 1 and 2, Tfin52- 1 and 2 (2006 edition)

but i recently came to know that there is a new edition (2009) released and we have to read that and also solution manager book sm001?.

i dont have much time to refer to the latest version now as i am running short of time.

kindly advise if there is a problem to give certification with old books?

Trust me FI exam is the most easiest exam, you should pass not less than 90 percent.

This is Abi.

I did the classroom session for SAP FI training and gave the exam back in 2008. I got 67.some%.

Since I did not clear the exam as passing bar was at 70% I couldn't get jobs into SAP. Since I had to

support the family after such an expense incurred, I took up different jobs till date. I changed from Customer Service to I.T support to event management to Recruitment and currently I am working in the H.R field.

Odd jobs, different domains, it was all jumbled. I am back in my independent financial stability and I always wanted to get into the finance and accounting field so I want that now. But since pay scales were too damn low, I preferred other domains back then, which paid me better on my interpersonal and communication skills.

I still havn't recieved my attempt certificate from the place where I did my certification from (Genovate Mumbai) and don't know if it matters after all these years.

I want to get back in the field which interests me. I've always been an B+ grade scoring student in financial papers in college. Other papers I did decent too.

The point is, I need some guidence from someone who knows the industry. I haven't had any proper guidance so I went where ever I saw good money.

I am 29 now and If you could guide me from the information above for my next POA, i'd be more than delighted this Diwali.

Do let me know. I am eagerly awaiting for a breakthrough.

It is better to go to SAP Academy 4 weeks of training, all SAP FI module its cost is 13000 eur. then a certification test its cost it 300 EUR

To start SAP Training with 13,000 EUR is a difficult start considering the amount involved. I myself spent more than 40,000 GBP for SAP Education. So, I clearly know the importance of money. I really do not know your background to comment upon. But, definitely, I should say it would be a heavy investment, unless this is being paid / sponsored by your Company. There is no guarantee that you would get a decent job after you completing your course. Attending the course does not guarantee you to pass the exam (though decent number of people clear the certification)

If you are talking about EUR mean you are somewhere in the European Union, where you can simply register and write the examination. I would suggest you prepare for the examination on your with a guidance from your relative / friend. I sincerely suggest not to pay (waste) 13,000 EUR just for basic FI training.

Some of your questions are addressed by the following blogs:

Looking at your professional qualifications and experience, it looks you have decent background. I do not think 32 years is too late. Probably, this is the right time rather than making too late to shift into SAP. You may initially be given Junior Consultant / Consultant type of roles. The sacrifice is time, effort, money. You need to be trained on SAP FICO. You have the option of e-learning with SAP. This is considered to be less expensive when compared with your class room training. You can take up the courses on your own and go for a certification. Please note that certification is not guarantee paper for your job. It all depends on how you demonstrate your knowledge, skills, competencies, calibre and abilities in the interview.

First assignment would always be challenging. Particularly, for FICO, there is lot of competition, unless you have good knowledge in niche areas like New GL, FI-AA, CO-PC, CO-PA, FSCM etc. it is definitely not easy to break into the market. I do not much bother about where my SAP education will take me to, however, I would put my complete efforts to learn the knowledge. Rest of the things will follow you.

The new certification system has 55% passing marks.

There is no partial marking. Means any question you answer, it has to be correctly marked to the point. If it has 2 correct options, you have to mark exactly those 2 to get marks.

Questions are 80. 3 hours duration.

No Negative Marking.

35% questions are from TFIN50_1. 30% are from TFIN50_2. 20% are from TFIN52_1. 10% are from TFIN52_2.

These four books are like bible for the certification.

You DO NOT have to learn the T-Codes for the exam.

There are 4-5 questions from Solution Manager and other online training courses too. These are small and can be read and completed just withn one day.

@ Others... You cannot do your certification ONLY. You have to tak the training too. Atleast this is the truth about Siemens and Genovate.

Also, if money is a constraint, you should do an online training course and you can easily finish it in 20-22 days, though they give you 5 months to do it.

My advise is that the training opens the eyes about various issues and trends, even if you are experienced. Go for it.

If you cant spend that much money and you have more than 2 years of experience in the module you want to give exam, you can always go for DIRECT Certification,for which they will check your experience alone and you dont need to attend training in any SAP Authorised Training Centers. But,your employer should be OK with this as you will need to some proof to SAP Labs about your employment with the current employer.

The whole process has been discussed many times in the various threads in this forum. Please check those.

TFIN 52 - Book 1 is related to Asset Accounting.

TFIN52 - Book 2 is related to New GL Accounting.

SAP Education / Training centres provide with this material when you register for the course.

I am raghuram. i had 2 yrs of exp in accounting (domain), i had training for SAP in unauthorized training centre for 3 months and now i would like to take certification exam (online training). Kindly suggest me is it suggestable.

Also please clarify that 55% out of 80 questions that is 44 correct answers is required to clear the exam, coz different institutions are giving different details. Also some are saying negetive markings are there in new exam pattern.
