Wildcard selection for characteristics in BEx Web Analyzer?

Former Member

Hi,

is there an wildcard selection for characteristics in BEx Web Analyzer?

I would like to search for a customer beginning with "Smith" (without sorting by name and searching alphabetically)

or that contains "Zoo" to find "London Zoo", "Zoom" and "Extra Zoo Articles"?

Smith* or Zoo seems not to work...

Hope anyone can help, whether it is possible and how...

Best regards

Thomas

Hi Sven,

thank you very much!

> set operation mode to *

Where can you set this? In the InfoObject in the query in the BEx Query Designer? In the query itself?

Best regards

Thomas

Hi,

when I tried your hint, I was finally able to search for a pattern!

In the BEx Web Analyzer (not the Excel based one), it is possible to search for a text pattern in the empty line with the funnel icon in front, if mode "Show view: All" () at the top is selected. You can even combine searches on name and key both using wildcards. The search is not case sensitive (smith). By the way "Show tool: Only single values" (*) is set a the left top.

It is NOT possible in the "Enter a value for ..." (**) field at the bottom and oddly enough it does NOT work in the search mode "Show view: Search" (***) in the search field or the funnel icon line.

Thanks to you for your ideas!

Best regards

Thomas

Field names are translated, German names are:

(*) "View anzeigen: Alle"

(**) "Tool anzeigen: Nur Einzelwerte"

(***) Geben Sie einen Wert für ... ein:

(****) "View anzeigen: Suchen"

Try this in analyzer:

-

drag characteristic (Eg Customer) to free characteristic or results area

-

right click and restrict

-

click the small yellow icon at bottom left

-

tick the drop down box below restrict(s) and select customer

-

select "contain patterns" in the next drop down box and "Smith" the next drop down box

-

click the blue arrow in the middle to bring the restriction to the right

-

select "all" in the drop down box number of displayed values and untick "value from info provider and authrized value only"

-

click OK and you will find all your selections in the descriptions box then

Hello Xi Feng,

this only works in the query designer, but it does not seem to work in the BEx Web Analyzer.

Thank your very much for your answers.

Hello Thomas

Since you are searching for the test you need to set it in the Bex Analyzer.

Do this.

Once you press F4 in the variable selection screen you get the pop up with the available values.

Here in the left you have the option of settings and inside you have the option for User Settings->general display->Custom.

here make the setting display as text and text type exactly as maintained for the infoobject bunsiness explorer tab.

So if its short text getting displayed in the queries then it should be short text here as well.

Hello Ajeet,

I think you refer to the BEx Analyzer in Excel. In BEx Web Analyzer this does not seem to work.

Thank you for your reply!
