CUSTOM ATTRIBUTES ARE CUSTOMER SPECIFIC ATTRIBUTE.

As you aware Supply some standard attributes like currency , cost center etc.

and these attributes are used for creating business objects in SRM for the specific user .

for eg. customer wants to create one zattribute like ztime custom attribute

ztime= 12 days.

for eg if Good receipt was not done for one PO with in 12 days , workitem will get triggered after 12 days and remind the end user that your po was not gr done . so buyer can follow up with vendor and you must use logic to trigger workitem and attriute mapping in srm.

Not very sure if same applies to SRM, but to add attributes in CRM org you can refer this [link|].
