A heart-warming story of... well read [this |http://www.linux-magazine.com/content/view/full/42073]and then look at [this|http://currentlyinpreproduction.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/hedylamarr.jpg].
Really good story, thanks for sharing!
Looking at the comments of a recent [Slashdot poll|http://slashdot.org/pollBooth.pl?qid=1952&aid=-1], it was interesting to learn about [Grace Hopper|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grace_hopper] - another woman pioneer in the computer science field.

Hi Matt,
Thanks for posting this very interesting story. I knew about "spread spectrum" technology but had no idea that it was invented before WWII and with a mechanical piano inspiration !

Thanks. Perfect story for the upcoming Ada Lovelace Day (March 24th). Hedy was one of the favorite hero(ines) of many of the contributors.
I created this link a few days ago [Ada Lovelace Day|http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/events/AdaLovelaceDay] and I know that someone will shortly be posting a blog to remind folks that it would be awesome to recognize women technologists in our community or historically as such role models are inspiring to many and do help bring others into the fold. Consider pledging to write about it here and thanks so much for surfacing this content Matt!
