Alternate Item in BOM

Hi Gurus,

I have finished product F with two alternate component A & B.

At the time production order consumption system has to give first priority to A. In-case A material stock is not available then system has to pick item B.

How to map the above scenario in SAP.

Dear ,

Please try with Discontinued Parts option available in Material master and BOM .I hope in your case alternative material selection is based out avaialble stock during the production process and selection of alternative material depending on the stock situation .

In this case , you need to maintain B as the discontinued material in A's material master MRP4 view :

Keep Discontinued Indicator 1 , Eff Out : Tentaive Date from which you want to plan this as alternative , Follow up material : B

In CS01 While creating BOM , you need to maiantian the following for item -A as component :

Select the line item -Basic data tab -Alt Group : Provide Goup -1 and press enter which will pop up with window -Alt Group .here you need to provide : Priority -1, Strategy ,Usage, Probability as per selection option .

Please try and revert back .

Hi,

In the production order the all the alternate mnaterials will be displayed. but teh quantity for the materials will vary according to strategy 2 the usage probability of the material which is in stock will be assigned 100% & whole requirement quantity will be put against the same.

While consuming the material also we will consume the material which has quantity .

I mapped like this

Scenario 1:

Material Alternate Grp Priority Strategy Usage prob.

A A1 1 2(100% Check) 100

B A2 2 2(100% Check) 100

But above case two materials are coming at the time of production order creation and consumption.

Scenario 2:

Material Alternate Grp Priority Strategy Usage prob.

A A1 1 2(100% Check) 100

B A2 1 2(100% Check) 100

But above case two materials are coming at the time of production order creation and consumption.

Scenario 3:

Material Alternate Grp Priority Strategy Usage prob.

A A1 1 1 100

B A2 1 1 100

But above case two materials are coming at the time of production order creation and consumption.

Scenario 4:

Material Alternate Grp Priority Strategy Usage prob.

A A1 1 2(100% Check) 0

B A2 1 2(100% Check) 0

But above case two materials are coming with zero qty at the time of production order creation and consumption.

Kindly solve the problem what will be the solution

Alternative items are selected automatically according to:

Priority

Strategy

Usage probability

But first you need to assign these alternative Bom Items in One group Please check this setting

NOTE: You have to enter the same grouping key for all alternative items

check the priority:

The priority of an item within an alternative item group determines the sequence in which material components are reserved in the production order.

check the strategy:

The strategy is only relevant to the withdrawal posting in the production order. The strategy is ignored in MRP.

Hi,

The setting of the priority of an item within an alternative item group determines the sequence in which material components are reserved in the production order.

Strategy is to determine how the items within an alternative item group are selected for the withdrawal posting. Use the same strategy for all alternative items in an alternative item group.

For the first line item, alt item group 01 maintained as 1 (priority),2 (strategy-100% check), 100 (usage probability) and for the second line item maintain the same settings.

Strategies for withdrawal postings are supported with:

1) Withdrawal according to usage probability (manual changes possible) or

2) Withdrawal if availability is 100%

So in your case if 1st item is available 100% then the system considers only 1st

If it is not available then only it searches for 2nd item 100% availability

Hi,

You can make use of alternate item groups in BOM. Group all these alternate materials in one group & assign a strategy of 100% check for the components.Indicate priority for the materials in the group.

Dear ,

you can use the alternative concept fot your requirement, in BOM for material A tick as alternate material put usge probability check 100% & also maintain as1 & also , for the material B put usge probability as 100% & priority as 2.

It will serve your purpose.

Hi

You can use Discontinuation Method given in BOM. In discontinuation data your second mateiral will get picked only when the stock of first material is NIL. If this is your requirement then you can go for this.

In MRP, the discontinuation functionality is used to transfer dependent requirements of a component to one or several follow-up materials, if the requirements are no longer covered by stock.
