How to handle this MRP situation

We have created a material variant & running MRP for this .System is creating the Planned Orders of its components , which we are converting into Purchase Requisitions & subsequently to Purchase Orders

Due to supply chan fluctuations , we encounter the situatons , where some components are not available with vendors for some temporary period .They suggest to supply the alternate material & ask for the change in PO

Now if we change the PR & PO manually , the system in Stock / Reqt Lists shows these revised PR/ PO as extra & suggest to cancel as there is no changes in material variant (i.e. requirement is still there in old code) .Also system generates every time a new Planned Order for the old material , when MRP is run

We can't change the material variant BOM , as the component obsolescence is only temporary & after some time , we will again be reqd to change the BOM to orignal

Pl suggest the way to handle this situation in better way

Dear ,

try use the Discontinued parts functinality availbale in material master MRP4 VIEW .Here you need to maintain the following :

1. Include discontinued indicator 1-single/paralle material ,

2.Keep the Effective Out :Date from which the stocks of the material are to be used up. As soon as no more stock exists for this material, it is to be replaced by the follow-up material.

3.Followup material : Number of the material that the system uses in materials planning to replace the material to be discontinued once its warehouse stock is depleted. Please remeber , i the material master record and also in the bill of material (CS02-BOM-ITEM-BASIC DATA -DISCONTINUED TAB), you can define a follow-up material for a material to be discontinued. The follow-up material defined in the BOM has a higher priority than that in the material master record.

But , this functionality will work only when the system transfers the dependent requirements in materials planning to the follow-up material if they are no longer covered by warehouse stocks.

So all of your stock existing for them if any to be tranfered into new material whihc you want to include in PR/PO

Hi Sandeep,

If the substitutes which are temporary, are not used in any other BOMs then I have workaround as below:

1. For the components to be substituted- Material Master MRP view 4 , Use the discontinued parts functionality

Discontin. ind. Eff.-out Follow-up matl the material--- put the subsittute component

2. In the substitute component - material master data , MRP view 4, Use the discontinued parts functionality

and add follow up material as the original component from the specific date.

With this work aroud, system first plan substitutes for the compinent from the follow up date.

And again for the next period of follow up substitute, it will create requirements for the original component.

Please check if this can work.
