FTP of SAP Log Files from i5 OS to Windows OS

Former Member

Hello,

We have a SAP AS JAVA Stack installation on DB2 UDB for i5/ OS. Since it is a i5 OS environement, it is difficult for us to view the JAVA related logfiles such as jlaunch, jcontrol, default.trc, logfiles in server0 directory etc.

Since I am new to i5 OS, I have the following questions.

1- I would like to FTP all the SAP AS Java Stack log files from i5 OS to Windows OS and then view them through wordpad, textpad etc. There is a user friendly utility called WinSCP for transferring files from AIX OS to Windows OS.

But this WinSCP utility does not seem to working for transferring files from Unix OS to Windows OS.

Does anyone know a utility (like WinSCP) to transfer files/ FTP files from i5 OS to Windows OS?

*2- We use putty, Hummingbird Exceed in AIX Evironment for logon? What is the substitute for putty, Hummingbird Exceed on i5 OS to logon to SAP Environment.*

3- Can I do a $tail -f <filename> on i5 OS.

3b- Also can I do a $tail -f 500 <filename> on i5 OS?

4- On AIX, to find a SAP logfile etc, I can do find . -name <Filename> etc. What is the command to do a search/ find for a filename in i5 OS?

5- Also in AIX Environment, we have .profile etc for SAP, JAVA Path and Database environment variables.

What is the substitute for .profile and .cshrc on i5 OS?

Thanks,

Haleem

Hi my friend

There's a simple way to view IFS of AS/400 by Windows notepad or other reader tools. A service called "Netserver" on i5/OS can enable access to IFS by TCP/IP from Windows OS, not only to read but also you can create/modify IFS objects, although it's not recommended since creating files through Windows OS gives the files created Windows code page.

To enable Netserver service:

If you have installation master of 70x release, navigate to TMKSVR directory, run SETUP.EXE once with user QSECOFR or other super user to the target AS/400 host, then it'll be activated for good.

Thank you very much Fan Yu, for your kind advice.

I have successfully enabled the "Netserver" service and configured the IFS.

Hello Haleem,

first of all, I'm happy, that most of your issues are solved with the reply before

A lot of the unix commands, you are looking for are available & supported in the Q-Shell via qsh (e.g. tail).

What you are looking for in special is obviously an ssh server - this one is supported (as PRPQ?) as well. I installed it properly and it is working. You can use putty and all the other nice unix tools.

Thanks Volker for the update.

I have 4 queries and would highly appreciate your answers on the same.

What you are looking for in special is obviously an ssh server - this one is supported (as PRPQ?) as well.

1- Yes, I am looking for a ssh server such as WINSCP. Do you mean to say that PRPQ is a SSH Server? I was not able to find it on google.

I installed it properly and it is working.

2- Can you kindly let me know the location from where I can install the PRPQ that you have just mentioned?

You can use putty and all the other nice unix tools.

3- Can you please let me know, what are the other nice unix tools for i5? Currently I use putty and Hummingbird Exceed for Unix OS.

(LicPgms 5799PTL & 5733SC1)

4- Can you kindly let me know what is LicPgms 5799PTL & 5733SC1?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Best Regards,

Hello Haleem,

I'm sorry, but now, it's starting to get consulting as you seem to not really to be used to the "AS/400-speech". All of this can be done for you ...

Hi Volker,

I am a SAP Certified in Netweaver and certified in Solaris 10. Also I am an OCP in 10G.

I am new to AS 400, since not many companies use it.

My current company has started implementing SAP Netweaver Components on AS400 (i5 with DB2 Database). We have some SAP Components on Solaris/ Oracle and Windows/ MaxDB too, on which I am an expert.

I only did not understand the following words PRPQ, (LicPgms 5799PTL & 5733SC1), so I would like to have an explanation to it.

We will be hiring consultants on AS400 very soon, but before that I am looking at answers to some of my queries.

Currently I did not get any answers from you, to my questions. But Fan Yu's above answer was very very helpful indeed.

Thanks,

Haleem

Hello Haleem,

ok, if I didn't answer anything with the names of the needed license programs etc., then I think, I'm not the right person to support here further ...

sorry,

Hello Volker,

Thanks!! Now I understand that when you say LicPgms, it means License Programs.

Kindly note that it is just few weeks since, we have just started implementing few SAP Netweaver components on i5 on DB2 Database.

Before we start hiring consultants, we need some answers to some of our queries.

We have already contact SAP Support and we are posting few questions on SDN too, to gain some information, in addition to the knowledge being provided to us by SAP.

Thanks,

Haleem
