I've been trying for around half an our to enable the "SAP Community Bio" in my LinkedIn profile.
Unfortunately I wasn't successfull.
Following the instructions I just get an error message "There was a problem validating your SAP account. You may need to enable the LinkedIn integration on your SCN business card.".
But I already
- made my SDN points and contributions visible on my SCN business card
- clicked on the URL on the SCN page where I get a token with a link ("Thank you for installing the SAP Community Bio application .... I agree that by clicking the unique identification code below, I ....")
- closed and re-opened my web browser (IE7)
- read through all kind of forum entries and blogs
Nevertheless it still doesn't work.
Do we have somewhere a step-by-step documentation of what I need to do to make the "SAP Community Bio" work in my LinkedIn profile?
According to what I already saw in the forums this is an issue that many users have, but there seems to be no documentation on how to make it work.
Thanks,
Rui
Hi,
I have tried to integrate. I got following error.
There was a problem validating your SAP account. You may need to enable the LinkedIn integration on your SCN business card.
http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/linkedin-profile this url needs to be modified....
You must be a registered user to add a comment. If you've already registered, sign in. Otherwise, register and sign in.
Please see previous posts on this, such as Using the "SAP community BIO" in LinkedIn doesn't work
Also not this blog: The Evolution of SCN and LinkedIn
"On Monday, June 27 [2011], the SAP Community Bio application will be disabled, and it will no longer be present in your profiles, nor will it be available during new user registration."

Jason
did this ever work for anyone? apart from the person in the screenshot?
You must be a registered user to add a comment. If you've already registered, sign in. Otherwise, register and sign in.
I think now even linkedin does not have any applications which support SCN , because I just saw the applications list in linkedin, SCN Community Bio application is not available.
Yeah for me it worked........ and later after some time is stopped updating so I deleted the application from my linkedin account..
I am waiting for an update too !!
You must be a registered user to add a comment. If you've already registered, sign in. Otherwise, register and sign in.
I have problems too. When I "click" on the button to associate my linkedin profile to my SAP Profile, the browser show the message:
Bad Request
Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand.
Reference #7.c30bccc0.1312720013.0
I saw that the APP seems to get in the loop when it tries to build the URL, see the following link that appears in my browser.
You must be a registered user to add a comment. If you've already registered, sign in. Otherwise, register and sign in.
It's still there
[http://www.linkedin.com/opensocialInstallation/preview|http://www.linkedin.com/opensocialInstallation/preview?_ch_panel_id=1&_applicationId=2600]
and still not working!
This is unfortunate, as I when I saw it I thought it was a great idea.

Just to clarify things for people who were or are trying to install the SAP LinkedIn Application.
A year ago it was brought up that there was a problem with the SAP Community Bio working properly with LinkedIn. This issue was addressed by Scott Lawley of SAP Labs saying that :
On Monday, June 27, the SAP Community Bio application will be disabled, and it will no longer be present in your profiles, nor will it be available during new user registration
You can find that link here.
/people/scott.lawley/blog/2011/06/24/the-evolution-of-scn-and-linkedinSAPNetworkWeblogs%2528SAPNetworkWeblogs%2529.
The problem is that the SAP Community Bio is still showing up , and is still not working.

Although I would love to celebrate the first anniversary of this open issue with cake, champagne and live music, as an integration specialist I fail to believe this LinkedIn-SCN integration is that hard to achieve.
If I would take this long trying to have two systems communicate with each other, I would be out of business long before twelve months have passed...

This thread has so many followers that SAP could use it for the important announcements. Not TechED. Not Sapphire. LinkedIn bug can do the marketing for you:))

Does anybody know if they fixed the problem?
Thanks.

I have a strange feeling that it's not going to happen. My recommendation to the SCN team is to wait for the anniversary, celebrate with everyone in this thread, then remove the profile option and pull the app from LinkedIn. If it is fixed at some point in the future it can be reintroduced with much fanfare

I reported this error to SDN in July, 27 of past year as follow:

Hi all,
I've sent an e-mail to SDN team about this bug and the answer was:
Hello Pedro,
There was a decision made not to continue with the LinkedIn integration at this point.
Kind Regards,

Anyone who works for SDN can confirm that?

Hello everyone,
There must have been a misunderstanding. On behalf of the SCN Team (Collaboration Team) I want to reassure you that we have not decided to deactivate the Linkedin integration. At least we should try to fix it!
This issue is now on my plate (I volunteered ) and so it is now my responsibility to fix it. I recently communicated this on Twitter and I am now informing you in this forum.
Next step: I need to do some investigation and prove to our IT department and LinkedIn that this is not working nor updating the number of points. It will take a little while so please be patient with me. This is a high priority for me, maybe not the highest for what I'm working on, but I will not drop this. I'll probably soon dream about LinkedIn integrations LOL
Will update you here.
Laure

Same issue as mentioned above... only difference is that I connected it almost on day 1 when it was released and it did work for a while, then suddenly a while ago I see that my total points wasn't updated anymore in SDN App on my profile.
I tried and retried without succes... I find it good to read that SAP is working on this issue (although the issue resolving time is very long IMHO).
Good luck in fixing it guys!.
Cheers,
Benjamin
Done,

Hi everyone,
I'm sorry we've been quiet about this for a long time. The person who introduced this badge on LinkedIn is on vacation until early January, so he cannot give an update here in this forum. I'm sure he will reach out when he's back.
I know he's been trying to find out what the issue is. I'm in the same office as him so we talked about this several times, in person. My badge works but I don't remember how I made it work, and it was almost a year ago.
I even enrolled Aslan (from the Mentor team) as my "guinea pig" and with Scott's detailed instructions via me, he couldn't make it work. IT has been telling us that the integration works, that it's just a user experience issue... We have to work on this in a programmatic way. If it's the user experience, we need to modify the step-by-step process and make the call for action clearer on SCN. If it's a problem between LinkedIn and SCN, we need to fix it and it will take some time.
Will keep you posted on this thread. I'm sorry this has become such an inconvenience.
Best,
Laure
Hi Laure,
First of al thanks for giving some update on this, I think everyone can agree on that...
(don't take the following personal OR the wrong way) IMHO, I find it a bit scary that the knowledge of this App is bundled in one person. I hope this only applies to this "SAP community BIO" App and not to other business critical SAP Apps?!
I think we have more then enough people that made the "SAP community BIO" work on there LinkedIn but it suddenly stopped updating. So indeed it worked fine when it got introduced but it seems to have been broken over time for some of us.
Maybe it is even the issue on the LinkedIn side we don't know, but that is what needs to be investigated.
I'm looking forward for the solution and again thanks for providing some feedback, much appreciated...
Cheers,
Benjamin

PS @Laure, I just looked at your LinkedIn Page an your SAP Community BIO is also broken. You have "SCN Point Level 146" on your SAP Community BIO App mentioned but when looking at your point in your SCN profile you have "Total points: 524".
FYI It's not only the points that do not get updated, all fields are frozen.
Hi,
The SAP community BIO doesn't work for anyone. And as it has the 'SAP' logo it's not really an advertisement for SAP software as it has been broken for 8+ months? The issue does not reside at linkedin it resides at SAP, SAP does not seem to be able to validate the account any more. Which it indeed was able to do previously (aprox 8 months ago).
Try: 'edit profile' in linkedin -> 'change your settings', in community bio -> 'Login to SCN' -> click 'authorization' -> it will always show you the error 'There was a problem validating your SAP account. You may need to enable the LinkedIn integration on your SCN business card.'
IMO we require fixing as this is really starting to look bad.

Tim
hi Laure,
Thanks for the Update,Waiting for the good news in new year:-).
Some application will work perfectly in our environment, when the end user experience it he feels the difficulty of using it and always needs some more change.its a common experience to every developer. same way your IT people thought this application is working fine and end user has a miss understanding in using properly. Thanks for finding the root cause and looking on it. waiting for update and
Best Regards
Mahesh.
P.S Make sure it will work before removing the piont recognition system in SDN. other wise you have to work on it again.
Hi Laure,
Thanks for the update at long last
So, as others have mentioned, it doesn't seem to be working for anyone these days. My personal experience is that it worked when I originally set it up (like you, around a year ago) and seemed to update OK, but I stopped checking after a while. Recently, I had my SCN account migrated to a different account number and I noticed that the LinkedIn badge wasn't updating. So ... I tried to re-enable it by deleting the app on LinkedIn and re-adding it. I tried several variations of the process of re-enabling the app and none of them worked.
If you want to recreate the issue, I recommend setting up a new SCN account and trying to enable the badge. I seriously doubt that it will work.
Cheers,
Ethan
Hello all,
a) thanks Laure for the update! Last few weeks/ months it feels like you appear in the conversations I didn´t see you before. What is great. Kind of a guardian angel. I wonder if that is a real thing or just my feeling after the teched where we met each other? Anyway... I like you online presence and am sure you will push this issue.
b) there is also an Idea place idea (by myself) where I ask for some more "tweaks" than just a fix.
If you´re interested, check the idea here: https://ideas.sap.com/ideas/1358
c) sometimes it feels like SCN and "social media" become a game changer for SAP internally as well. Or is it just a feeling? More people understand that they don´t work for a boss in an office. That they "work" for customers all around the world and are expected to face the customers online.
Just ideas...
best Otto
Have also raised the issue with Linked in to see if they have an answear...may not be with SAP SCN

I have had a reply from Linkedin and they say that the problem is not at thier end as the issue resides with the SDN side of the integration process .
Also had the std SAP reply below.
"Please be sure to view the instructions for LinkedIn which can be found here:
https://secure.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn?rid=/webcontent/uuid/4034dad2-e79d-2b10-3fba-fd85fe42c87b [original link is broken]
Please follow the guidelines found at these links

/people/kevin.wilson2/blog/2009/10/08/the-linkedin-sap-community-bio-app-is-finally-available
Also, it is recommended that you
1/ Display your contributions points in your business card (go to My Profile in top menu, then Business Card tab) and 2/ Click on the activation link displayed at the bottom of the SCN login verification screen from the linkedin app.
There are some problems which are under investigation by our development group concerning LinkedIn integration. We have no further updates at this time."
still no joy at this time..

Mark
Having the same problems as reported by you all..
There iis another thread which does hint at possible solutions but they were no good .
Have resorted to sending mail to sapnetwork@sap.com to see if they can fix the issue.
will let you all know if they sort it

Hi Rui,
I also had some problems getting the Linkedin application to work. I send a mail to sapnetwork@sap.com and they made some changes to my employee profile to fix it.
