alternative materials in PP

Dear friends:

I have known something about PP alternative Group and alternative item functions,

but i am not sure whether SAP whether SAP PP supports following business scenario. Anyone 's responses will be highly appreciated.

Here is the business requirement:

Material A is a component of FG,

And material B can be an alternative item for A when A is in a shortage.

let's say the stock of A is 10, the stock of B is also 10.

And the requirement for A is 12,

Can system automatically suggest in production order processing that 10 pieces of A and 2 pieces of B should be used in the prod order?

PS: if A has enough stock, no reservation for B should be proposed by system.

Please help. and thanks in advance!

Dear,

The SAP standard alternative group cannot realize your requirment.

If you use 100% check strategy, when A is short, system will consider B as a whole, if B is short either, then, system will give you an advice to use A, for your instance, 10. and B will blank w/o value.

If you use Usage probability, you should change the probability manually.

hope it helpful.

Hello Friend,

The system works in following way for alternate material:

At the time of maintaining the alternate material in BOM, one has to put the Usage Probability and Priority for the materials. The system plans for the material based on the usage probability and the priority.

The same thing applies to Production Process as well.

In an FG, if component A and B are alternate to each other, and the usage probability priority combination is as follows:

Comp. A -

Priority 1 --- Usage Probability 100%

Comp. B -

Priority 2 --- Usage Probability 0%

In above case if production requirement is 12, system will propose Comp. A requirement as 12 and comp. B as nil. Now if stocks are available for A then there will not be any shortage. If stocks are not there or Shortage is there, system will not allow release of production order OR planned order confirmation will terminate with errors.

If ratio (usage probability) is 50 - 50, system will propose 6 each of A and B for produciton of 12 pcs.

Coming back to your question, you have not mentioned "what priority & usage probability you are planning to give to components A and B." Please confirm that first then only it will be clear for posting the consumption.

You yourself can make out from above mentioned system behaviour how the components will be proposed.

Hope this will clear your doubts.

Thanks for your response ,

in my example,

Material A has the first priority, B has the second priority.

B is only used when A is in shortage.

Yes, this should be feasible.

Inside your BOM components view, you can find alternate item group. This will help you maintain multiple components that are alternates to one other.

If you maintain the Usage % it can fulfil your conditions.
