CR for VS2010 and CR XI R2 Runtime issues and redistribution license issues

Hi,

We have posted a query in CR for VS2010 Licensing blog and we got answer. Thanks for it.

/people/blair.wheadon/blog/2010/04/19/crystal-reports-for-visual-studio-2010-licensing

Just before purchasing we have some more details to be cleared.

We downloaded CR for VS2010 and we changed configuration and everything. We tried to launch a report without parameters, it is working fine. When we trying to run a report with parameter it will show parameter popup and after giving parameter values when we press OK button it will show a progress animator and it will not close. This is what happening while pressing Next and Previous button. For Export button it is working fine. We searched this issue in the forum but didnu2019t find any solution. We have installed the following software in our system.

1. CR for VS2005 (10.5.3700.0),

2. CR XI R2 for VS2005 (11.5.3700.0)

3. CR for VS 2010 (13.0.2000.0)

4. VS 2005

5. VS 2008

6. VS 2010

7. CR XI R2

8. CR 8.5

9. Windows Vista Ultimate SP2 (32 bit OS)

We developed the application in VS2005 and now converted to VS2010.

So we decided to use CR XI R2 for VS. It was working fine for us in VS2005. We tried the same in VS2010 it is working fine. We have purchased CR XI license. When we tried to install CR XI R2 runtime it asked license key code. We gave the license key code of CR XI. It is accepted that code and we installed it in 64 bit system (in which IIS was running in 64bit) it is showing the following error message

Crystal Reports

-

An error has occurred while attempting to load the Crystal Reports runtime.

Either the Crystal Reports registry key permissions are insufficient or the Crystal Reports runtime is not installed correctly.

Please install the appropriate Crystal Reports redistributable (CRRedist*.msi) containing the correct version of the Crystal Reports runtime (x86, x64, or Itanium) required. Please go to http://www.businessobjects.com/support for more information.

We changed IIS to run in 32bit it is working fine there.

1. Should we buy any license to redistribute CR XI R2 through our application?

2. Is there any solution for the CR for VS2010 progress animation?

3. Is there any solution for CR XI R2 to run in 64bit system?

4. If we need to buy the redistribution runtime license for CR XI R2, can we use it for CR for VS2010 runtime (as we are planning to use this version, but as its giving error, we moved to CR XI R2 - on a temporary basis)?

Thanks,

Baby C S

First thing you have to do is settle on version of .NET and CR you want to use. Then we can troubleshoot any issues one at a time. At this time (as much as I appreciate detailed posts) I am very confused as to what it is youare trying to do - other than deploy some version of CR with some version of .NET...

One thing to watch for since you have everything under the sun on this box(?). There is a known issue where CR 10.5 assemblies may get pulled into a CRVS 2010 project. You can check on this easily be looking at your references / web.config., etc. If you see CR 10.5 references, simply remove them from the project.

1. Should we buy any license to redistribute CR XI R2 through our application?

- not for a win app

- web app - not to make it work. To be within licensing parameters, perhaps - if you are distributing the runtime to a 3rd party

2. Is there any solution for the CR for VS2010 progress animation?

- one issue per thread. Describe this issue in a new thread

3. Is there any solution for CR XI R2 to run in 64bit system?

- depends. There is no 64 bit CR XI R2

- see [this|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/10d5fa88-2013-2c10-c9a5-f11963607d4e] article.

4. If we need to buy the redistribution runtime license for CR XI R2, can we use it for CR for VS2010 runtime (as we are planning to use this version, but as its giving error, we moved to CR XI R2 - on a temporary basis)?

- N/A

Hi Ludek,

Thanks for the reply.

Sorry for the confusion. We are in the software business for years.Till last year, our software was client-server application. Now we are releasing the web interface for it. In our client-server application we use crystal report for reporting. We have registered license for crystal 8.5 and 11. Now for the web, we are planning to use the same crystal features. We want to install our software in customer's IIS server. (In brief we are developing web application and which will be run from different servers out side our company.)

"First thing you have to do is settle on version of .NET and CR you want to use."

We are using VS2010 and we want to use CR for VS 2010. Since there is an issue of Progress Animation we just changed CR version to CR XI R2 (as we know it is working fine with us earlier). CR XI R2 is working fine in VS2010. We are about to release our product soon, that is the reason we are not waiting to release SP of CR4VS2010. So we are going to release our product with CRXIR2 along with our web application. Hope you understood our situation and versions we are using.

"One thing to watch for since you have everything under the sun on this box(?)."

I just mentioned all the version in my system just to reproduce the 2nd issue at your end. I didnt found anyone mentioned this issue in preious threads. So I was underimpression that if you want to reproduce progress animation issue it will be helpful for you. I will post another thread for this issue.

"There is a known issue where CR 10.5 assemblies may get pulled into a CRVS 2010 project. You can check on this easily be looking at your references / web.config., etc. If you see CR 10.5 references, simply remove them from the project."

I am already aware of this issue and I manually chnaged my web.config when i found this.

"web app - not to make it work. To be within licensing parameters, perhaps - if you are distributing the runtime to a 3rd party"

Sorry, I am not clear what you mentioned. Does it mean that we need to buy the redistribution license? Or just install the run time on each customers server using our crystal report 11 licnese?

Thanks
