Hi All,

the Popup windows of our Web Dynpro Applications do not open when using Firefox 4.

Does anybody have a hint what to do to fix this?

Thanks,

Johannes

You should check the platform availability matrix.  http://service.sap.com/pam

I don't believe that Firefox 4 is supported yet.

      Ok, thanks..

What do I do in case the customer would like to use Firefox 4?

The thing is: the customer provides the Web Dynpro Application to the public and many users are already using Firefox 4.

Telling each user using Firefox 4 "Your browser is not supported" does not seem to be an option for my customer...

      Thanks,

      Johannes

There isn't much you can do about this.  If a new browser version causes incompatibilities in the rendering, then they will be fixed - but in the next support package. It does take some time for these fixes to work through the internal validation process.

The same situation holds true for Internet Explorer.  We don't yet support IE9 either.

The weird thing is: It works on our Delevopment system and it does not work on our Q System..

I have checked all settings in WD_GLOBAL_SETTING and they are all equal.. Lightspeed Rendering is turned off on both machines as well..

          Weird problem here...

Really? Not related to the problem in question, but turning off Lightspeed wholesale is NOT advisable. You are giving up the massive performance improvements as well as all the new UI elements of 7.01.

Are they at the same support package level?  Any OSS notes applied to Dev that haven't been moved to Q yet?  Either of these situations could explain the differences in rendering.

The browser could be applying different security policies, if you're not using the same protocol (http/https) in both landscapes. The same might apply if you are accessing your web dynpro through different top domains (e.g. devserver.intranet.com and qualserver.company.com).

Nothing to do with anything else. Its the User Agent ID/String.

If your client/boss must have it right now, there maybe something in the visual admin that tells the AS what String is acceptable.

OR, wait for the SP patch.

FYI, I belive 7.3 AS supports it (note 1524910). Maybe run the webdynpro app in 7.3, and federate into the production portal.

Here are all the variants of the string:

What you describe here is valid for Web Dynpro Java, but not Web Dynpro ABAP.  It doesn't use the same user agent string settings nor would running the content in the 7.3 portal make any difference since the WDA rendering is done on the ABAP backend and not on the Portal.

We're seeing exactly the same issues with Firefox 4 and our eRecruitment system.

Dropdown lists stopped working and pop-up windows don't open rendering it unusable with this browser.

Where systems are external facing we have no control over what browser they use. Given the length of time Firefox 4 was in beta its really disappointing that no fix is available.

Given that there's talk of the Firefox release schedule being stepped up this problem is only going to get worse as time goes by.

    Hi,

try to use Firefox Add-On: "Default User Agent" !

so that you can edit HTTP-Header.

You define new entry, for example: "Firefox 3.0 Imitation" and you edit User Agen from  "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:2.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0" to Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:1.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0

Restart you Browser, than activate your "Firefox 3.0 Imitation" User Agent.

    And enjoy you WebDynpro !!!

As indicated by alexandre, using a plugin to change the user agent is a current work around.
