Problem installing EPM 10 add-in against office 2010 x64

Former Member

I have tried installing both SP3 and SP4 of the epm10 add-in on a 64-bit server running office 2010 64-bit. The addin will not load.

The add-in installs by default to the Program Files (x86) directory, so it seems like maybe this is due to the add-in being a 32-bit application.

However, BPC 10 supports 64-bit office. Is there a way to get the add-in to load into 64-bit excel?

thanks,

Tony DeStefanis

According to this page, Office 2010 x64 requires 64-bit versions of the COM add-ins. Is the EPM Add-in available in a 64-bit version?

Hi Tony,

As per the [EPM Add-in for Microsoft Office Installation Guide|https://websmp209.sap-ag.de/~form/sapnet?_SHORTKEY=00200797470000093252&_SCENARIO=01100035870000000112&_OBJECT=011000358700001223362010E].

Only the 32 bit ( 32-bit / x86 ) editions of MS Office are currently supported at this time.

Thanks,

John

Hi John,

Thank you. I think the following statement in the

Master Guide

SAP BusinessObjects Planning and Consolidation 10.0

Version for the Microsoft platform

on page 10-11:

The following platforms are supported:Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Edition or 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition·

Microsoft Office 2003, 2007(32 bit), or 2010 (32 or 64 bit)

is misleading, since it indicates that BPC 10 MS supports Office 2010 x64. Since BPC 10 relies on the EPM add-in for end-user functionality, it cannot support x64 version of office 2010.

Will the EPM add-in be updated in the future to support x64 office 2010?

Hi Tony,

I believe this is in the plans but there is no committed date. There are a lot of integration points here due to the mix of BOE and EPM products.

You can always try to update the BPC MS or BI/EPM Ideaplaces with your suggestion:

Hi all,

Does anybody know if there is now a release date for 64 bit support? Searching around I cannot find one so I can only assume there is no news here unless anybody knows otherwise.

Thanks,

Tom

Hi Tom,

I believe there is now a version that works with 64-bit office 2010, even though it's not clearly labelled as such in Service Marketplace: the "BIG VOL" version works with Office 2010 64bit. It uses .Net 4.0

In my testing it worked fine on Windows server 2008 R2 64b but not on Windows Server 2008 64b (non R2). I have not tried it on Windows 7.

Hi Bruno,

Thanks for the info - unfortunately 64 bit is no longer an option for me but that is good to know.

Cheers,

Tom

I have installed the 64bit EPM addin .Net 4.0.   I can see it as a com object when I go to Excel 2010 Options>Addins.   When I bring up the COM addins and check it and then click OK there are no error messages, but then when I restart Excel 2010 (on 64bit Windows 2008 R2 SP1 server), it returns to unchecked.  I reduced macro security and every other security setting I could think of for Excel.  Still won't load.  This is a VM and we have gotten it to work on other images, but this is my first solo install.  What am I doing wrong?

Diane,

Just a thought, but I was having issues and I installed the *.msp file and that cleared it up.  I believe the COM objects are having problems because they are being run as an Administrator.

Hope this helps,

Rob

Hi Diane,

I was having the problem you describe where the EPM add-in would not stay selected as a COM-Add-In. This was after installing the latest version and rebooting.

(EPMEXCLCLNT14P_3-10011004, Windows7 64bit, Excel 2010 64bit)

After much re-install, repair, rebooting, I looked at the Disabled Items, in the same drop-down where the COM Add-In was found, and I found the EPM add-in was in there as a Disabled Item for some reason. After I removed it from the disabled items, I was able to select it in the COM Add-Ins and all is well.

Joy,
