Hi Experts,
My ECC6.0 EHP4 system is in windows 2008 MSCS cluster with 2 nodes. Taking online backup is not a problem but I want to take offline backup. If I start offline backup then the oracle database will be stopped and the resources from Node1 will be shifted to Node2.
So, please let me know what approch shall I follow for offline backup in MSCS cluster.
Regards,
Nilesh.
Hi Nilesh,
As far as I know, during an offline backup the database remains up and running. It is only the SAP application that goes down.
Thanks

Hi Nilesh,
Not very sure if you have access to cluster operations at OS level. Generally we can freeze the cluster and prevent it from switching resources to the other node and perform any downtime related activities, in your case the offline backup.

Hi,
When you want to take offline backup then in last system will automatically restart db that time db will failover to other node. And backup will fail.
To avoid this problem when you want to take offline backup then stop SAP system and bring oracle db out of cluster using SAP note 648480 and then schedule backup and after backup put db again in cluster.
Another method is take backup using SAP Gateway (SAP note 657999) from this it will take offline backup using DB13 and you need not to perform above steps.
Thanks
Sunny

Hi All,
While starting installing stand alone gateway using note 657999 I found that it is written in the note "The steps below apply as of SAP Release 4.5B" but we are in ECC6.0 EHP4.
So, please let us know what shall we do in this case. We want to implement stand alone gateway for DB13 properly working. Now check database, online backup etc is not executing from DB13

Nilesh
