BO 4.0 error: overflow while reading long

Former Member

Hi All,

I am using BO 4.0 and trying to create a connection to a BW query. When I click on 'Connect to server to choose a cube', it asks me to authenticate with my SAP BW ID (we are also using SAP authentication). After that it gives me this strange error message 'overflow while reading long'.

We upgraded to SP02 and patch 6 and it seems after that we have started to get this message.

What I have tried so far:

1. All the input parameters to connect to the BW system are correct. Even tried to use a fully qualified name for the BW server. Also, tried to use the server IP address to connect. But it doesn't work.

2. I purposely tried to input incorrect password, incorrect parameters for the BW system but it still throws the same error message. I think it is not an issue at the BW system but Business Objects 4.0 is not allowing to establish this connection.

3. I have an alternate method to create connection from Information Design tool but it works only for Webi reporting. I can create a new report which means I am able to communicate between BO 4.0 and BW using this connection.

But for Advanced Analysis OLAP, the connection created from Information design tool does not work and I cannot create a new connection from CMC.

Has anyone seen this message before ?

Thanks,

Prasad

Thanks alot for your answers! Could you tell how to safely redeploy WAR files. How you have done this?

Thanks in advance

Valentina,

It depends on your BO 4.0 architecture and the type of Web Application server you are using. You may refer some of the deployment guides from SAP.

Look for:

'SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise Web Application Deployment Guide' -- SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0

'Web Services Administrator Guide' -- SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence platform 4.0

Hi,

in Support, we've seen this problem only when the bi4 web applications didn't deploy correctly, so - do redeploy the war files and try definiing your connection again

I agree with Henry.

When we install patches and/or service pack it is recommended that we manually deploy the WARfiles again. In our case also the web services were not deployed correctly. After redeploying we got rid of that message.

Thanks,

Prasad
