Crystal report font issue when rendered as PDF

Hi we are experiencing an issue with custom fonts within Crystal reports. The font is an open type font that does appear to work if the report is viewed as a crystal report, but when it is rendered or scheduled into a PDF instance it fails and gives a Crystal Reports: Print Engine Error when using openDocument and scheduling gives exporter error. Any help or feedback is appreciated

Thanks for the replies.

I am currently running Crystal reports 2008 12.3.6.1006. This is what our current BOBJ environment is at.

This is only an issue when we try to render as PDF using an OpenType font.

I asked admin to check even viewer and did not see anything.

Are OpenType Fonts supported in crystal reports at all?

Aaron,

OpenType is not supported for PDF at least in:

Crystal 10

https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1218086

XIR2

https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1219411

The ADAPT indicated has been postponed.

I canu2019t find an official statement for XI 3.1, however, there is a test you can run and itu2019s to delete the Opentype font from the server and use the same font name but TTF instead. At least, this behaviour has been reported here:

Hi Julian

Are you saying to delete and then reinstall the OpenType font with a TrueType extension or is this saying I need the TruType version of the font. Thanks for more clarification on OpenType fonts.

Hi Aaron,

In the KBA particular example, I guess that the Crystal report was created using True Type but the server had OpenType and TrueType. When the PDF was generated, the first font used was the OpenType and therefore, the error appeared (in that case incorrect font).

If your server has got the same font but TrueType, you will be able to display and export to PDF correctly. What you need is to install the TrueType version of that font and uninstall the OpenType.

Julian

Hi Aaron,

Regarding the issue, please provide me with the following details:

1. Is the issue with all the Crystal Reports?

2. Are the reports migrated from another environment?

3. Is the issue only with PDF format?

4. Are there any error in the Event Viewer when the issue occurs?

Hi Aaron,

Is it only when you use that font? Have you tried to modify the font and display/schedule in PDF format?

This error can also be due to crosstab in the footer of the report:

Hi Julian

When I change the fonts back to arial everything works fine. There is no crosstab in the footer or any data in the footer or any crosstab in the report. The strange thing is that it works fine just viewing in crystal viewer but using opendocument with PDF flag set or scheduling to PDF it no longer works. The server and my machine both have the fonts installed. The strange thing also is that it did seem to render to PDF a week ago now nothing. The fonts are open type fonts.

Aaron,

Iu2019ve seen before problems exporting to PDF when non-TTF fonts are used. You can also check this old post:
