BI 7.0 to BI 7.3 UPgrade

We have BI 7.0 on Netweaver 7.0 platform, We want to upgrade it to BI 7.3. How can i upgrade this. Has this to be upgraded using traditional upgrade methodology using SAPup tool? Because i noticed there is other option using SAPehpi tool which can also upgrade it to BI 7.3.

The reason i am asking is when i go to solution manager i find three options for my system there:

Maintenance, Enhancement Pack Installation, Netweaver 7.3 Upgrade. So if i use 7.3 upgrade option in that case it downloads only Support Patches which has to be deployed using SAPehpi tool.

Hi Vishal,

You need to select the upgrade option from MOPZ to upgrade your BI system from NW7.0 to NW7.3 version. This MOPZ will generate and download only the traget SP levels, Kernel and IGS files which are required for NW 7.3. Upgrade DVD's need to download from path " service.sap.com/swdc --> SAP NetWeaver and complementary products --> SAP NetWeaver --> SAP NETWEAVER 7.3 --> Upgrade --> Selcet your OS & DB here to download the Upgrade Master DVD. Using this dowloaded upgrade master DVD you need to run EHP tool to upgrade your system. Please let us know if this can help you.

Solution Manager will download only the SPs not the 'Upgrade DVDs'.

Upgrade media is to be downloaded from OSS. Please read the installation and upgrade guide thoroughly as well as verify the OS and DB release requirement and compatibility with NW 7.3

What you are trying to do is a real Upgrade which is done by SAPup and not by SAPehpi.

You use SAPehpi to install an Enhacement package.

Thanks for link, however I didn't see anywhere on the presentation that to use EHPI Installer for NW 7.3 upgrade.

Refer to below link on another presentation and note (you might also need to consider the Authorization objects from 7.0 to 7.3 upgrade which is also mentioned in the below presentation)

Hello Vishal,

Regarding EHP installer usage, even I read in one of the SAP document that we can upgrade 7.0 to 7.30 using ehp installer. Moreover we have an option "UPGRADE" in MOPZ to download upgrade packages for NW 7.30.

To be frank most of the standard documents recommend to user upgrade procedure using upgrade GUI. I never get chance to read NW 7.30 upgrade guide. I suggest you to please go through it and choose the tool to upgrade.

Technically we can upgrade using ehp installer as I don't see any strong reason not to use it. You can give a try on sandbox, if possible.

Hello Vikas,

Yes, you have to download upgrade packages from Solution Manager and upgrade using EHP Installer. Please read NW 7.3 upgrade guide available in SMP for more details.
