What would happen to SM 7.0 EHP1 after the end of it's maintenance?

Due to SAP Solution Manager Release Strategy maintenance of SM 7.0 would be finished on 31.12.2013

We have a very conservative customer who use Solution Manager 7.0

He doesn't want to go on with 7.1 because "everything is working, we do not need any new functionality, etc..."

I need some realy strong and solid arguments concerning problems with using 7.0 after end of the maintenance.

We supposed that SAP-services like sending messages to SAP and EWA would not work properly, but it is only our suggestion.

We don't have any SAP articles or documents that could confirm our thoughts.

Need your help, of course will regard points for your helpful answers.

Hello,

What comes after mainstream maintenance?

Upgrading is the first option.

But as you said, your customer is not willing to upgrade then you can go for alternatives.

A second option is to choose extended maintenance, which is available for an additional fee. SAP offers extended maintenance for some older releases. During extended maintenance you typically receive all the features from mainstream maintenance with no restrictions.

If neither of these options is right for you, you can remain on your mature release and enter customer-specific maintenance.

Please contact your nearest SAP office for the various options available to your organization for your product.

Regards

Vivek

Hi, Vivek.

We want to explain to our customer why should he upgrade to 7.1 before SAP ends the maintenance of 7.0

The point is: would our customer be able to use some of SAP services or not if he decided to stay on 7.0

And what are other problems of staying on 7.0

After finish the mainstream maintenance, customer can choose pay additional fees for Extended Maintenance, after finish the extended maintenance, he can choose the Customer Specific Maintenance that I believe that is not cheap....

Please note that according to the Maintenance Strategy document available in ServiceMarketPlace, Extended Maintenance is not offered for Solution Manager 7.0.

7.0 and 7 .0 EHP1 are in the customer specific maintenance now. By doing so you would be missing out lot many features that you can take advantage of in 7.1. If you are concerned about existing functionality then there are tools available using which you can safely top the upgrade and transition to 7.1 without much hassle.

Vivek
