Hi,

Let me answer you question on another way:

Workbench request are related to technical work such as custom programs, where as Customizing request are related to IMG (Implementation Guide). Some of the customizing requests might be client independent.

Now, what is client?

As per SAP definition: A self-contained unit in an R/3 System with separate master records and its own set of tables.

My suggestion would be try to connect with your basis team to understand more about client as they would be in a better position to help you about your system landscape.

Hope this would be help.

Thanks

Workbench request are usually for objects that are client independent, whereas customizing requests are client dependent objects (client dependent table entries).

Well I do not know what you use clients for.

But if you sign on at the system you have to fill out the client number. A client is a logical unit on the SAP system, e.g. used for the business needs of one company. So maybe if you have one holding you register one client for each subsidiary. But thats really SAP basics.

When you develop programmes. You coding is available in each client.

If you do customizing for example via IMG (Transaction SPRO), you customize your system by setting special table entries. Those entries are only used within your client and not available within the other clients of your SAP system.

Transporting in this case means. If you have e.g. a developtment system and a quality system, you transport coding and client independent table entries via workbench transports, to make those available in the whole quality system.

If you do customizing e.g. in client 001 of your development system, you transport it via a customizing transport to client 001 of your quality system.
