Hi,
We are installing BI 4.0.
Please let us know does which of the following platforms are better to install with.
Please specify the reasons as well.
Windows server 2003 + SQL Server 2000-8.00.2055
Windows server 2008 R2 + SQL Server 2008 Enterprise
Hi Madhukar,
For BI 4.0 you have 2 options for installation
Option 1: Windows server 2003 + SQL Server 2000-8.00.2055
Option 2: Windows server 2008 R2 + SQL Server 2008 Enterprise
I would suggest to go with option 2 ( Windows server 2008 R2 + SQL Server 2008 Enterprise)
Reasons:
1) Windows 2003 and SQL Server 2000 are out of mainstream maintenance and support. Sooner shall be out of support from SAP. Going with this option will result in extra support cost and merely no support from SAP at a later stage.
2) Windows 2008 R3 and SQL Server 2008 Enterprise are newer versions and will be under mainstream maintenance for another 3-5 years. Being under mainstream support, customers shall benefit from prompt support from SAP for issue resolution and save upon extra maintenance cost.

Hi,
In addition to mainstream support you may utilize the following new features of MSSQL 2008 R2
SQL Server 2008 R2 is the latest release of Microsoft SQL Server. The u201CR2u201D tag indicates this is an intermediate release of SQL Server and not a major revision. There are a number of compelling features in this version for both developers and DBAs alike. Here are the Top 10 new features in SQL Server 2008 R2:
1. Report Builder 3.0
