Difference between Safety Permits and WCM

Hi friends ,

I have a doubt regarding safety permits and tag/lockout in WCM of SAP PM .

As safety permits can be used to validate that all the safety precautions have been taken and now we can start working on operations mentioned in PM order .Similarly  tag/lockout in WCM , ensure the safety precautions have been taken .So what is the major difference between two and please guide in what business scenarios we should prefer safety permits and in what scenarios tag/lockout of WCM should be used

Regards

PM

Hi,

tag/lockout and safety permit depend on the type of activities to be performed in the field. For simplicity you can say that Tag/lockout is a subset of safety permit.Safety permits are mostly used for all scenario whereas tag/lockout is used mainly when work has to be performed after isolation of the object.

There can be various scenario where you do not want to isolate the machine(isolation and taking back in line takes more time) and carry out maintenance with safety precaution and there you can use safety permit.

For example if you need to work on a mechanical pump alignment, ideally it should be De-energized (electrically isolated). In this case you need to go with tag/lockout so that no one can energize this machine when the work is going on.

In the same mechanical pump if you need to take a vibration reading, this machine need to be in running condition but you need some additional safety precaution so in this case you need to go with safety permit.

Hope this clarified your query and revert if you need more clarification.
