When I follow a link to SCN I get an Unsupported Browser error page even though I'm on IE 8. This occures when I follow a link from Google as well as when I follow a link provided by SCN such as the blog posts by Mark Yolton. The browser page does let me log on to SCN and do some navigation such as get to the Home page.
I installed IE 8 the first time I got the error page so I'm now on a supported browser. I've cleared cookies and history but still get the error. However, once I'm logged on to SCN following links works fine.
Any ideas on how to get around this?
Hi Gerald,
Could you provide some more information on this, which links you are browsing? Also in detail which browser version you are using? Maybe you are familiar with HTTPWatch, which you can get for free. You can do a network trace using HTTPWatch and send it to me, which would give me enough information to trace down the issue.
Thanks,
Oliver
My version information:
Version: 8.0.6001.18702CO
Following this link found on Google also causes the problem.
In an email from Audrey Stevenson directing me to the blog by Mark Yolton causes the error.

I’m not sure I’ll be able to help you out with the trace as I’m on a corporate desktop and they frown on loading software on our machines.
Hi Gerald,
I would recommend you try it out with a browser of a local colleague in your office, best same browser version. Maybe it is some specific config on your end. Haven't seen this before and IE8 is for sure supported.
Best,
Oliver
I am the only one who seems to be having the problem. No one else at work experiences this problem.
I thought that I would just wait for my desk top to be refreshed which should be happening soon but I'm getting frustrated with this error. I can't follow a link that I've found on Google without getting the error. I have to log into SCN and redo the search within SCN which 9 times out of 10 doesn't get me the same results as Google.
IIRC Ie has some kind of compatibility mode. We don't support IE 6 anymore and if IE 8 tries to emulate that old thingy that could be the reason. I would recommend to check our IE config.
I managed to figure this problem out.
It turns out that I had a problem with my internet registry file. After quite a bit of searching I found this link http://www.fiddlertool.com/ua.aspx that directed me in how to clean up my registry file. I had duplicate Mozilla/4.0 entries. One for IE8 and one of IE6. I must have been confusing SCN with the duplicate entries. Once I removed to IE6 entry as per instructed using the above link all was well and I didn't recieve the error.
Hope this helps anyone else that might be having this problem.
Hi Gerald,
Thanks for this information. I too was able to follow the instructions at http://www.fiddlertool.com/ua.aspx and resolve the issue with my Internet Explorer 8. I was directed here by a parallel discussion from Jason Lax at http://scn.sap.com/message/13222540#13222540
