HI Gurus,
i am working on the material master extension of material which already exist in different plant code.so to the plant for which iam extending all the material are inter company procured.so do i have to maintain the MRP views for these material as we are not doing any procurement.?? just transferring them from a different plant. how does maintaing/not maintaing the mrp views effect the entire sales and procurement process.
thanks in advance
If the materials are to be transferred from one plant to another plant through STO than you should define Purchasing and Sales views as it is required to create STO.
If your STOs are planned by MRP than yes you will also have to maintain MRP views but it may have different values as compared to mfg. plant MRP views.
If these transfers are adhoc and are manually done than no need to extend MRP views for those plants.

Hi,
It is always better and standard practice to extend MRP views also for materials.
MRP views (1 to 4) allow you to maintain various critical parameters like MRP type, MRP controller, Lot size, procurement type, Specical procurement key, availability check, bom explosion/dependent reqmts etc. - all of which are important for planning.
There are many advantages if you bring these materials under MRP planning. Like,
1. Using MRP controller, you can group these materials for the purpose of planning and reporting.
2. You can make system to generate PRs automatically through MRP.. these PRs can then be converted to Stock transport orders etc.
3. You can use special procurement key to identify these stock transfers etc.

Hi Prabhu,
thanks for your reply.here in the plat for which i am extending the material there is no production involved ie we do not produce anything as this plant code mainly has services and involve only spare parts for the service orders.so these spare parts are transfered from a different plant as sto s.so how far maintaing mrp views for these spare parts are important as they are not produced but transfered from a different plat.and even on top of it we dont stock at astanderd level but very few in numbers.
thanks
If it's just plant-plant transfer, you dont need MRP view and normal purchase / sales process doesnt require MRP view. But you need MRP view in the below cases
- Planning through MRP
- Include availability check of the same material in both plants
- want to generate STO PRs through MRP
- want to maintain safety stock though it's statistical excep reservation scenario
- want to use different production version that material
and etc

Hi,
You can use Special Procurement Key 40 and 70 in MRP2 view of material master in the respective plants.{(40.-Stock transfer proc.from alter.plant ) and (70- Withdrawal from alternative plant)}
As MRP run at plant level but also you can have concept of "Scope of Planning"-Run MRP at plants under one or various company codes.
