Hi Nerijus,

Please refer to the installation guide for BOFC 7.5 page 90 -

Configuring SAP BusinessObjects Financial Consolidation Excel Web Schedules

You can download the installation guide from SAP Market place.

I already read that part. It states configuration only.

But how do I install it and open it via excel?

Hello Nerijus,

You need to indicate on the CA dimension that you will use EWS

Once you have done that, reports in packages of that category will open in Excel - no further installation is required.

Hi Nerijus,

In fact EWS does not require any installation. It is a mode that allows users to open schedules using the Excel technology (instead of opening them in the default/standard HTML mode).

In order to do so, you need to have Excel installed on the client workstation and you need to follow the EWS configuration steps mentionned in the BFC 7.5 installation guide.

I hope this helps.

Cheers

Hi Nerijus,

In addition you need to ensure that the functional profile authorizes EWS for the user code.

I'm now facing another problem:

When trying to use "reconnect offline workbook"

Server returns error:

Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component.

Has anyone faced this one before?

Hello,

This error message is encountered  in some cases when, for instance, the network connectivity is bad, or when the Application server has become instable, etc.

It can only appear when there's DCOM communication involved  between BFC client and application server.

For that , we advise you to check your DCOM configuration on the client workstation. Please refer to the following Knowledge base article: 1222126 - "Best practice" : Setting-up DCOM protocol on a Finance (Magnitude) platform

Hope that help you.

Hello,

You can use the EWS Audit tool. It helps you to identify the missing configuration.

The EWS Tool (EWSAudit.exe)  is located on the installation folder of BOFC and under the folder TOOLS.

This tool will generate a log file (CtEWSConfigAudit.log ) in which you can identify the missing configuration.

To generate this log file , you have just to follow these steps:

1.  1. Access to the folder Tools ( the default path is  \SAP BusinessObjects\Financial Consolidation\tools\EWS Audit Tool)

2.  2. Launch the EWSAudit.exe

3.  3.Enter your Web Server URL and click on “CheckConfig”

è The log file will be generated on  C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\SAP\EWS\CtEWSConfigAudit.log

I hope it helps.

Hello,

You  need also to indicate in the preference part in the Web interface that you  want to use the EWS. So you have to be sure that these two options are not ticked.

In the Windows Client , For Analysis, you have also to tick the option “ Excel Web Schedules”, when defining  a functional Profil in the security Part:

§ I hope this helps.

When I try to open an item I get:

Cannot open schedule containing local modeling in Excel.

Maybe you know why is that?

Hi Nerijus,

In fact, this error message is caused by an incorrect IIS configuration.

To resolve the issue, perfom the following actions on all web sites:

-Open IIS Management Console

-Select Default Web Site

-Right-click on the folder and select Properties

-Select the Directory tab, click the Configuration button

-Click Add

-In the Executable field, select the C:\WINDOWS\Miscrosoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_isapi.dll

-In the Extension field, type: .xls

-Verbs: select All verbs

-Tick Script engine

-Untick Verify that file exists

-Click OK twice

-Repeat the same operation fot the .xla extension

-Then select the HTTP Headers tab, click the MIME Types button

-Click on New...

-In the Extension field type: .xll

-In the MIME Type field, type: application/vnd.ms-excel

-Click OK

-Repeat the same operation for the .xlam and .xls extensions in the MIME Types dialog box

Then restart IIS, and restart the Finance datasource

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Thanks for your informative answer, it helped me to move on.

Now, when Excel starts up, I'm getting Cannot find CtPlanning.xll

Any ideas?

Hello,

You need also  to copy the content of the planning folder on the EWS folder located on C:\Documents and Settings\local user \EWS  . For that , you have to follow the steps bellow:

  1. Access to the folder C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\Finance Web site \planning
  2. Copy the content of the planning folder
  3. Access to the folder c:\Documents and Settings\local user \EWS
  4. Paste the content of the step 1 on the EWS folder( step 3).

I hope it helps.

I see that this step was required, indeed.

But this is kind of not friendly to simple users.
