Connecting to SAP BO Explorer Without Mobile Servers on Ipad

Hi All,

I am new to BO Mobile and want to clarify certain things before I move forward. I have read a lot of posts regarding this and I'm totally confused. :hb:

We have BOXI 4.0 SP2 installed in our environment along with BO Explorer SP2. We have configured BO Explorer to run on our corporate environment and now the goal is to have access to this BO Explorer on all Ipads.

First, I need some clarifications regarding SAP BusinessObjects Mobile Processing Server and SAP BusinessObjects Mobile Authentication Server - Do these servers get installed when BOXI4.0 is installed or do they get installed when BO Explorer is installed? I did not participate in the installation of BOXI4.0/BO Explorer but I have done several installations of XI3.1 before - so I am familiar with BO Architecture and these servers appear to be new in BOXI 4.0. I am assuming these two servers are required for Mobile BI, correct? (If i want to view webi/crystal reports from BB/WindowsMobile and other devices). Please let me know if I am wrong and if it has other usage scenarios.

Second, In order for BO explorer to work on Ipad, I downloaded the SBO Explore App from the AppStore. In terms of configuration on the server side, all i did was copy the MobiServer.war file from <Install_Dir>/SAPBusinessObjects/mobile 14/server to <Installation_Dir>/Tomcat6/webapps and restarted Tomcat* (*restart not required). After the .war was deployed, I have access to the server.properties file. Should I change the server URL in the properties to http://<server_name>:8080/explorer/. Is that all that is required?
I have configured it as mentioned above and am not able to connect. I think my ipad and BO servers are on different networks for which I will have to VPN in. I will try it out and let you know.

Third, Assuming everything works internally, I can use reverse proxies to access the servers through a public domain because I need the SBO App to work outside the corporate network as well.

I would really appreciate it if others who have succesfully configured BusinessObjects Explorer on Ipad to guide me through!

Hi Raghav,

SAP BusinessObjects Mobile Processing Server and SAP BusinessObjects Mobile Authentication Server are the two servers which come preinstalled with BI 4.0

as you mentioned you have seen installations in 3.1, you would have seen them there as well.
with the name of VAS and VMS.

These servers are required to view webi and crystal reports ( 4.1.0 ) on your BB/Windows phone. thats absolutely correct.

Now for explorer the settings are correct, but in case you have not configured something correctly, would request you to go through teh installation and deployments guides avaialble for ipad at help.sap.com. you can get all the guides required for security configurations as well.

Hi Raghav,

You dont have to do any changes in server.properties file. You can check whether your war file is deployed correctly by
http://localhost:8080/MobileBIService/MessageHandlerServlet?message=GetVersion

it will give a success message.
Once this is done check in ipad whether you are able to access tomcat by typing following URL: http://<server ip>:8080/

If you are not able to open the tomcat site then check whether any firewall is enabled and pass a rule to bypass the server ip and port.

Once this is done click on below link to perform other steps:
