    BO4 - Install Folder

    Hi,

     

    It has been suggested to us when do the install to choose folder different to default install folder

    e.g c:\sapbo4install rather than default program files area

     

    c:\program Files(x86) etc as the brackets apparently cause problems with windows 2008 server.

     

    Any thoughts on this?

     

     

    Any problems if choose diferent folder than c\program Files(x86).

     

    Doubt it but just thoought I'd ask.

      Hi Philip,

        The only problems I've seen regarding brackets was for some older version of the Oracle middleware (I think version 9 and before but I'm not 100% on that).  i.e. if you were connecting to Oracle for reporting or for the CMS/Audit database it wouldn't work if the client (Business Objects in this case) was installed in a directory with brackets.  I don't believe this is an issue with newer Oracle middleware versions.

       

        I've never seen any problems related to installing BI4 to non default locations.

      there are some oracle drivers, even newer ones that do not like this location or do not like our product in that location (I think Larry does it on purpose )  , then there are other issues when some time the total path for certain cache or folder locations becomes too long (over 256 characters limit).

       

      Plus, in my opinion, it is much cleaner, easier and nicer to have a neat short path instead of this.

       

      Let's put it this way - short path = lower number of issues, default path = higher number of issues, that you can potentualy encounter.
