Session Handling in Cookie?

Former Member

Our ITS session is maintained in the URL which means when a user starts our service with http://host/path they end up on http://host/path(sessionid). If they bookmark this the bookmark will not work when the session ends.

According to this link (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwes70/helpdata/en/05/f9e8005d944049b15eac7008238c3f/frameset.htm) the session could also be managed via cookie which solves our problem. How can we change how session state is maintained in ITS (SAP_ABA 701 0011)? Previously in 701 0006 we did not have this problem.

Hi Marc and Oisin,

did you solve this issue? We have the same problem with our service.

Would be great to get a feedback.

In the default configuration cookies will be used assuming the system can create/accept them. Are you using a fully qualified host name to access the system? The use of a fully qualified host name, meaning hostname.company.com, is required for session cookies.

Hi Samuli,

we use a virtual host (4th-level.3rd-level.2nd-level.domain.com) so that is problem?

No, that's fine. The requirements for fully qualified host names are described here. There must be some other reason why cookies aren't used in your case. Without access to your system it's hard to say, you better create a customer incident to SAP support.

Will do that!

Thanks a lot!

Bump.

In our URL we have (cz1TSUQlM2FBTk9OJTNh.....=)

Which decoded is:

s=SID%3aANON%3aHSRVMAX1_MAX_01%3aVYp-GRgW6JwuG3jj5Y5H7Zj.....

So why is ITS not using cookies??

I can confirm that setting the parameter ~cookies = 1 in SICF changes nothing.

Hi Marc,

From your description this is the correct behaviour I would expect in this scenario

Are your users closing the browser session? OR are they navigating to a different site and then returning to the ITS Service when the logon does not work?

What is the logon method that is set for the service the user's are accessing? Can view this via the transaction SICF and navigate to the service in question.

See:  Defining the Logon Procedure

Here is the SAP Help link for the parameter ~cookie

Would recommend to do a HTTPWatch trace when going through the scenario will then be able to monitor the state of the ~cookie setting.

Regards,

Oisin
