Hi Varun,

309 is used to transfer the stock of a material from one material master to another.

The best scenario to understand this is, imagine you have stock of grape juice and over a period of time consider that it matures to wine while storing it in a cellar. Now we have not done anything to this material but the material has changed over value and quality (which is separate topic) over the period of time.

So by posting a 309, you are reducing the stock of grape juice and increasing the quantity of red wine. Now, there will also be considerable value addition to this material.

The only constraint in doing this is to have the same base unit of measure in the material master record.

The same example has been lucratively by SAP in the following links:

Hi Varun;

use T.code MIGO, select Tranfer posting - others, movement type 309.

Then in the  FROM side enter material from which you are transferring stock, with the respective plant/storage location details.

The in the DEST side, enter the material to which you are transferring stock with the respective plant/storage location details.

then Post.
