Kindly clarify on below my Below Queries,

1. Is Class room training mandatory for appearing SAP HANA

SAP Certified Application Associate - SAP HANA 1.0.

Or can we do our own preparation and appear to certification.

Hi Vimal,

Please find clarifications on your questions below:

1. Is Class room training mandatory for appearing SAP HANA

SAP Certified Application Associate - SAP HANA 1.0.

Or can we do our own preparation and appear to certification.

You can certainly do your own preparation for the exam as the SAP delivered courses are just a recommendation for certification and not mandatory. I myself and many others have found self study to be sufficient for exam preperation. If you do a general search you can find content, examples, and suggestions for perparing for the exams. Here is one such example

Please do note the importance of hands on training. http://www.saphana.com/community/resources/hana-academy

2. I have 5 + years of SAP BASIS Experience , is that a good idea to shift my career to SAP HANA.

IS HANA more of BW and DB concepts?

In my opinion your BASIS experience will be helpful but you do need a solid understanding of databasing concepts. You can search for and read many such concepts. Your knowledge of ABAP should give your basic understanding of tables and join logic. The current version of HANA uses many types of logic but mainly code is done in SQL. I recommend reading the HANA SQL reference guide. This and many other HANA guides can be found here: http://scn.sap.com/community/developer-center/hana

FYI - just saw another thread with a similar question http://scn.sap.com/thread/3288325

Hi Danielle,

Thanks for your detailed information on my queries.

I hope C_HANATEC_1  certification will be the right one for my experience.

Hi Vimal,

Glad you found it helpful. Unfortunately I do not know of a link to download SAP cource content for free as these courses are generally quite pricey I think you might struggle to find the course content online as its protected. However SAP do publish tons of HANA information like installation guides and user guides etc in the developer center.

Thanks  Danielle,

Can you please confirm that, I heard  in INDIA its mandatory to take SAP training for HANATEC  before giving the certification.

So after a self preparation is it advisable to take exams out of INDIA ( I mean to book a exam slot in countries like singapore, malaysia or UAE)

Kindly advice on this...

Hi Vimal,

If you consider the cost of travel to Malaysia / Singapore and exam fees for the same, I think it would be cheaper to appear for the exam in India after attending the course.

I wish you clear in first attempt itself. But just in case, you couldn't clear in first attempt, you may have to travel to Malaysia / Singapore again for the second attempt.

So please consider all the cost factors and then make the decision.

Hi Ravi,

The cost of training comes to around 1.75 L and certification is of 40K.

But the travelling expenses to and fro will be around 25k  max .....

And I have few of my friends in malaysia and singapore..... so staying factor wont be an issue....

My concern is mandatory classroom training for certfication in INDIA.

Can we take certification alone by self study instead of training in india...

I have some work experience in BO, BODS and SAP BASIS... which will help me out to understand the concepts...

Correct me if i am wrong.....

Thanks

Now you have very strong point. 🙂 I didn't know that the training in India is that expensive and I didn't know that travel to Singapore is that affordable. :-), you will also have a nice vacation...

Please refer to one of the MOST READ and MOST DISCUSSED blog on this forum below:

http://scn.sap.com/community/hana-in-memory/blog/2012/08/27/my-experience-on-hana-certification

In my opinion, you can clear the exam without attending the training. The classroom training will help you understand the concepts, but if you go through the all the relavant material, it will be anyway covered.

So all the best for your certification.

Ravi

My Experience on HANA Certification

Hi Vimal,

I do not believe the course is mandatory to gain certification. I did not attend the course and was certified in the other HANA associate exam so Im making the assumption that the TEC one is the same. i took the exam in the UK so not fully sure that the exam in India has the same allowance but I do have a collegue in India who also took the professional exam without classroom based training so in my opinion it doesnt seem mandatory to take the classroom training. SAP certification website would have mentioned this if it where mandatory.
