Difference between publishing dashboard as SWF or Dashboard design object

Hello All,

Can any one please elaborate the difference between dashboard publishing to BO platform as dashboard design object and dashboard export as SWF file then upload to BOE using New Local Document? Which method is better and why?

Hi Ashutosh,

Well nice question!

Dashboard Design Object:

When we export dashboard to BOE as Dashboard Design Object, it’s stored in two formats on BOE File Repository .SWF and .XLF. We can open Dashboard Design Object from Xcelsius/Dashboard Designer and BI Launch Pad. Dashboard Design Object is an object of BOE Server.

Local SWF File:

When we export dashboard to SWF format and upload it to BOE as New Local Document, its stored in only one i.e SWF format on BOE File Repository. We can open SWF file (New Local Document) only from BI Launch Pad and not from Xcelsius/Dashboard Design.

We may need .XLF file for future dashboard enhancements (changes) and that’s why I would prefer to store it in Dashboard Design Object format.
