Search material in MI04

Hi experts,

We have lots of Materials in an Physical Inventory document for counting (we create Phisycal inventory doc. using mi01). now the problem is that when we want to count these materials we need to be able to search into the materials and find the specific material and then enter the counted data for that material. in mi04 when we enter the Physical inventory doc. we get the list of materials in it, but we can't search into the materials. is there any way to enable search option in mi04 or is there any other transaction? if it's necessary to write a new program for this purpose is there a bapi or function that we can use?

any help will be appreciate

Dear Masoud Gholami,

We have the same topic in our company. Inventory counters count and note the counted quantity on so called "count cards" linked to the counted material/bin. After the count is finished the inventory responsible for this area collects the cards and enters the data in SAP..... card by card....

>>So we would have the need to search by material in MI04, too.

I already double checked the mentioned transactions in the other replies...

MI24 makes it possible to enter the count after the material as been found in the list but this is very "unefficient" because the system always jumps into MI04. After the user entered the quantity he has to jump back to the list to search for the next material.

Bottom line:

Did you solve your issue with SAP Standard (customizing change to activate the search function in MI04) or without SAP Standard (custom program, modification of MI04, etc.)?

Thanks for info

instead of searching materials and then counting them, we used batch input using transaction mi34

You can use the tranaction MI23.

I think, that's what you are looking for.

Sorry but you must have misunderstood something in the physical inventory process.

you create a physical inventory document with MI01 or MI31

then you print that document.

then you count the material physically - based on the physical environment e.g. from the left side of the location to the right side of he location, the counting team searches for the item on the printed document and notes the counted quantity. The items are usually sorted  in alphabetical order.

(In MI31 transaction you can even control how the sorting shall be)

in MI04, the items are presented in the same sequence as they are on the printed counting sheet, hence the operator just enters the count from top to down. No need to search anything.

I know what physical inventory process is, but in our company we have a different method. it's not sorted by any thing (i know it's ridiculous). we need too be able to search into the materials. is there any way to do so?

why is it not sorted in the document. maybe analyzing and getting rit of this issue makes a search help for MI04 obsolete.

in general MI01 is a transaction to count one or two materials as a spot check, but MI01 is certainly not designed to do an annual inventory of several hundred materials, this would be similar to use a Tuk Tuk  to explore the 5 continents. of course a Tuk Tuk can be used to drive, but it is not intended for such adventure

Better create you inventory documents with MI31.
