Does SAP Spool request No. repeat after some time

Hi,

We have these 2 param (rspo/spool_id/loopbreak & rspo/spool_id/max_number )set to 99000 . Does it mean that after 99000 the spool request number will again start from 1. Our spool retension  policy is for 7 days . Our current spool request no. is 25833.

Hi Vishal,

To my knowledge,you are correct to a certain extent, rspo/spool_id/loopbreak value determines in which the spool number should loop in. Once the spool number reaches the value 99000, it will look for next available spool number from 1 and will assign this value to spool request.

I hope by spool retention period you mean you SAP_REORG_SPOOL job will delete spools older than 7 days. If you see that you have spool requests older that 7 days in SP01 it means the spool reorg job is not deleting the old spool requests. Please check the variant and report of the job in that case. There was an issue with this job in deleting the spool after 2011. You might check the below blog for more details,

Hi,

The 10 digit spool number that we see in SP01 is a number that is generated by the system. This number is re-used ; means that your re-org jobs would have deleted the old spool numbers. The system is able to use one of those numbers for the newly generated spool requests.

The parameters rspo/spool_id/loopbreak & rspo/spool_id/max_number define the maximum number of spool requests that your system can hold before it issues the SPOOL error. This is infact governed by the SPO_NUM number range. If the value states 99000, then it means that the system can hold 99000 spool entries. If its 32000 (default) then it can hold 32000 spool entries in the temse.

Note: The spool number (10 digit number in SP01) is different to the number of spool requests that your system can hold.

Hi Vishal,

As far as I know , spool request number won't be reset... It will keep on incremented one by one.

These two parameters are used to set the values to avoid Spool request overflow.Maximum value for these parameters is 99999

Usually we need to schedule few standard background jobs like SAP_REORG_SPOOL that will trigger the program RSPO0041  to delete the spool request after certain days.
