Negative Inventory

Dear,  Is it possible to allow negative posting in stock after Go-live.  What are the advantages & disadvantages.  Thanks & regards  Varun

all the config settings will be done before Go-Live and will be moved to Production system, even you can make the required settings later on and move to PRD at any time in OMJ1 for allowing negative stocks for a valuation area and also maintain the entries of plant/plants which comes under this valuation area for which you are allowing negative stocks postings. Same way you can maintain the Sloc also for which the negative postings would be allowed.

you allow negative postings usually when the stock physically is available but has not entered in the system, so in that case you dont want your process/production to stop/wait just because the stock has not been posted/recieved yet, so if you allow negative postings then you can issue the stock.

Hi Varun,

Tcode OMJ1 .

1.Go to Valuation area. Choose for which valuation area you want to allow negative stocks and activate the flag. 

Select the line of that valuation area and go to the plant level.

2. Plant. When only one plant exists for that valuation area (this will always be the case in case the valuation area is defined as a plant), you see immediately a details screen with special stocks. 

Choose the special stocks that may go negative. Next use F3 or the green arrow to return to the overview of the plants. Select the plant and go the the storage location level.

3. Storage Locations. Select for which storage locations negative stock is allowed. Save the whole lot.

after configuration of above steps you need to maintain ' x' negative stock check mark in material master plant specific.

You can think as simple why we need money in Loan while we don't  have cash. same here we don't want to hangup our task like sales from system, good issued for production, which can be maintained further.
