SAP Environmental Compliance - Master Data Management

Hello experts!

We are looking for best practices related to Master Data Management for SAP EC (formerly xEM - Emissions Management).

Basically we would need to know what the best practices are in relation for creating: facilities and materials in SAP EC.

For example: Is the norm to create the material "Water", or is creating different types of water (surface water, ground water, saline water, sweet water, etc.) more used?

Does a guideline or norm exist for this?

Thank you and best regards!

Fernando,

Normally I would expect different "types" of water to be created as different materials in EC.  Typically this would be based on a naming convention such as "Water - Surface", "Water - Ground", etc. to make searching for materials easier (ie can then just put water* and get all water materials).  Ideally using business terminology as much as possible to make information more useable to the business.  Also don't forget to use "description" to put more definiton of the material.

The material types, material groups and material classifiers can then be used to provide for any grouping/aggregation that may be required from a calculation or reporting perspective.

Regards,

Michael
